Intermittent top tailgate won't open! Update

Good evening all,

The boot is now opening intermittently - though it was SWMBO but it happened to me too Evil or Very Mad

It will open after a few attempts & occasionally with the ignition on.

Strange thing twice I shut the boot locked the car - no locking but alarm set on second attempt back to normal.

I am assuming it is some kind of wiring issue.

I have searched previous threads but can't find a matching issue.

Any advice is welcome - it is at 9.5 MY SE.

Also my technical ability goes as far as washing the thing - please be gentle on me Bow down

A similar fault on mine was down to the paddle that operates the switch in the handle; it had corroded to the point where it worked when it felt like it.

Complete new tailgate handle assembly was a ten minute job to fit - even after levering off a couple of seized captive nuts - and not desperately expensive.

+1for corroded internals on tailgate handle. 
1997 Defender 90 for the kids and I to have a go at some competitive off road RTV and Tyro trials, daughter picked up her first trophy over the August Bank Holiday.

Further investigations - now at the Indy!

No corrosion - switch is fine Thumbs Up

All mechanicals, cables, motor fine Thumbs Up

Somehow wiring fault - awaiting LR support to ring back to confirm cable colours - apparently they've changed?

Hoping to have her back tomorrow with a boot that works Bow down

Cannot fault Mark at my local Indy for his communication etc.

Shame the same can't be said for LR support Whistle Learning everyday!

Wiring loom Fault in handle. Confused

Needed a complete new rear upper handle - wow LR prices have gone up! £91 plus vat Evil or Very Mad

Unfortunately did not have time to contact sponsors etc to get better price.

Only good news following a full electrical diagnostics a clean bill of health Bow down

Happy with my local Indy and the fact he's not taken the Censored on labour time or costs.

SWMBO is happy that she has HER discovery back because my car is in her words very basic and tinny! Learning everyday!
