EPB Question
Just replaced the EPB shoes, disc's and pads. all went very well with the help of "Bodsys Brake Bible" (Thanks Bodsy), adjusted as above bible, wheels now back on, car on ground and fuse refitted. My question is this; being 10:30pm it was to late to do the final adjustment and resetting of the EBP (on road) however,when I turned the ignition on to close the window there was a lot of clicking from sensors etc and the window would only do up halfway. Does it matter that I will perform the final setting on the EPB until tomorrow morning. Thanking you in anticipation.

Did you leave the key in the ignition whilst doing the brakes?
I'd just check the voltage. As long as you've done the physical adjustment, the bedding in process is fine to wait till tomorrow. (And so would the adjustment as long as you don't put the fuse in yet)Bodsys Brake Bible

Bodsy. First off many thanks for your reply and advice. and as mentioned before the user friendly instructions (Body's Bible). I did make a couple of school boy errors, but more of that later.
To answer you questions: -
I did leave the key in the ignition, in the off position. whilst doing the job, I also replaced the large pink fuse, just before closing the garage door and retiring for the night.
Is the timeframe vital between the section were I start the car and operate the EPB switch 4 x up followed by 3 x down, and very next step, the on the road section (applying the EPB at slow speed for 10 times). What I'm trying to say, can I go out to the car now and do the first section, and perform the second section later on in the day or do both sections have to be done 1 straight after the other ?

Yes, you can do the bedding in procedure at any point after its all back together. No issue. ðŸ‘

Just re read it.
If you enter bedding in process, as soon as you go over 30mph it will exit that mode.
So just wait until you can do the on road but and then enter the bedding in process with the epb switch up down thing.Bodsys Brake Bible

Bodsy. Sorry please excuse my ignorance. Are you saying I should do both operations exactly as they are described on page 32. e.g. the stationary bit first followed straightaway by the on road bit.
The 2 school boy errors, both on rear axle, well 3 really were: -
1. Whilst I did, or I thought I did, read the entire "Brake Bible" before commencing the job, it obviously didn't all sink in to my grey matter.
2. I'd already removed the rear pads and callipers before, reading the section on disengaging the EPB, so I had to refit the callipers and pads to enable me to preform that task.
3. Similar thing only this time (still on the rear) I removed the retaining springs and pins from both shoes, before attempting to remove the primary shoe first, which made it a lot harder than it should have been. I didn't make the same mistake twice and did the nearside in the correct sequence, shoes came of a piece of cake.
The moral of the story is; read, read, and read again, the instructions before lifting a wheel of the ground.
Incidentally I've done all 4 wheels this week, including new front wheel hub bearings. I must admit, whilst it appeared a bit daunting tackling the rear brakes, in spite of the minor (self imposed) issues mentioned above, I found it a lot easier than I was anticipating. Thanks to your guide/instructions.
The hardest bit I found was re-fitting the shoe retaining pins and spring clips. I used a G Clamp to hold the shoe against the back plate, which acted like a second pair of hands, the tip about the using the plastic tie to keep the spring clip compressed was a godsend.

I must concur about, not leaving key in ignition. I did it whilst working on my D3 and after 7 hrs battery voltage down to 7.2 V- Be warned. I always remove the key now.

Find a really quiet road to do the bedding in bit, so getting to such means going above 30mph, then do the bedding in selection on the hand brake and off you go you may still find you exceed 30 mph and have to re select again because 10 stops actually takes quite a bit of time. Good luck

Another lesson learnt the hard way. Just tried to start the car to perform the EPB re-setting, to find the battery is as flat as a pancake. I only left the key in the ignition whilst doing the EPB shoes, as I knew under normal circumstances, as soon as you remove the key the EPB operates and applies the brakes, and didn't want to take the risk (even though I'd removed the fuse) of getting my fingers trapped.Joined Aug 2014.
