Transmission leak (auto D3 HSE)

Sorting through the issues on recently acquired HSE.
It had quite a loud clunk and a bit of judder on acceleration.
Had a quick wobble of the rear prop and it was clear the centre bearing rubber was shot, so I did the clean and sealant around it and the clunk has gone, but the judder is still there.

It had a megaflush with 'platinum treatment' in Jan 2014 by 4 Tech Wisbech including a new plastic sump/filter.
Quite a bit of ATF was visible on the cross member so I dropped the plastic panel this evening.

Source looks to be the mechatronik seal.

Is it possible:
- A top-up with ATF will fix the judder (I have some Dr Tranny but don't know if the 'platinum treatment impacts the use of DrT)?
- The seal might not have been engaged correctly when the flush was done. Could it be reseated without draining all the fluid?

I don't have the service sheet to hand at the moment so can't tell whether the mechatronik seal was replaced at the time.

Thanks.

Mechantronic seal is unlikely to have been replaced at the time of your flush as there is a fair bit of extra work to be done to do it.

You need to release the retainer from the inside of the box to change the seal, so it is a sump off to get to it.

also be careful with refitting as it is easy to damage the pins on the connector.

As Steve says really, especially the bit about how easy they are to break when removing or refitting.

The older seals as fitted to your vehicle are notorious for leaking. Thankfully ZF released a revised version a number of years ago that has proved to be totally reliable; so hopefully a job that only needs doing once.

Thumbs Up

Thanks for the responses.
I'll need to drive it 500 miles north before changing out the seal.

What's the procedure for filling the trans oil to the correct level?
Is it worth adding Dr Tranny for the time being?
