| The Beast is making trouble again |

Hello alltogether.
Again I have to ask for advice for the Beast of a friend of mine.
It is a 2005 Model Automatic with a total of 285.000 km on the clock.
The Beast had some problems with the air suspension, which was more or less cured with a new compressor.
Now it starts to get some (Automatic) Gearbox issues.
It won't go into 1st or 6th gear. It just uses No: 2, 3, 4 and 5 as well Reverse. You canot change the gears manually and it won't show the current gear in the instrument cluster.
The gearbox changes the gear quite "brutal" (like a smart gearbox) and the engine revs up to 3.000 - 3.500 RPM till it goes into next gear. It feels like the car is in Sport-Mode, but you cannot get it back into "Normal" Mode.
The car has got as well the Problem, that you cannot change from High- to Low-Range. It stucks into High which is O.K. for the moment.
When I made an Oilchange last weekend I discovered, that there was far two much Oil in the Engine. It was pitch black and had a slight "Toffee" smell while changing.
After the Oilchange, the car started much easier, but there are still the Gearbox issues.
I asked another friend of mine (a very skilled mechanic) and he just answered. If this would be a horse, he would shoot it right now 
As the Beast is in Cameroon, where there is no LR Dealer or skilled Indy I want to ask the community if they can help another time with hints, help and advice.

you changed the engine oil or the gearbox oil?
I would say that there is not enough gearbox oil. You checked the gearbox levels with the engine running right? Bodsys Brake Bible

I just changed the Engine Oil, Air Filter, Fuel Filter and Oil Filter.
How can I check the Gearbox Oil? I assume there is no Dip Stick at it is at the Engine
