Indicators (Lane Change)

I've now just picked up a 2006 TDV6 SE for a 2-day test. (This will hopefully be the car that we buy in a weeks time when the paperwork is sorted out and assuming that I don't find anything dodgy during the next 2 days Very Happy )...

I seem to remember in another 2007 TDV6 SE Discovery that I tested a few weeks ago that when you just 'flick' the indicator stalk it gave three flashes of the indicators to allow you to change lane.

I know that this is pretty much standard on most cars nowadays, but when I tried it in 'my' 2006 car this morning it didn't seem to work.

Can anybody confirm if the lane change indication is something standard or maybe just in MY08 models?

Is it something that can be activated by the dealer on an older 2006 car?

Thanks in advance,
Paul

OK....cheers bkehoe. Thumbs Up

....now comes the obvious question.... Very Happy

Was this just a software change that can be applied to other cars (as an important safety feature of course) or am I stuck? It really is a useful feature to have...

I raised this question a while back. Someone replied (I think it was one of the dealers) that it cannot be fixed by a software patch, which is annoying...

Perhaps a silly question but I assume that there is more to this than just changing the flasher relay?

Yep, in theory. Although on some cars there is a two-stage switch on the actual indicator stalk: flick it once to initiate "lazy" indicators; push it all the way up or down to have constant indicators. Vauxhalls and Volvos certainly have this.

A few years ago a had a Vauxhall Vectra as a company car and the damn 'intelligent' indicators used to drive me crazy..... Evil or Very Mad

TBH in our case I don't think this feature is related to the indicator stalks themselves....indeed in almost any car, you can simply hold the stalk against 'spring pressure' and it will flash the indicators to allow lane changing. You can then apply more pressure to the stalk and it will 'click' into position, only resetting itself by a 'click' in the opposite direction or by turning the steering wheel enough to clear the indication.

I really do think that it is probably just a software thing....once the computer realises that you have given the stalk a 'quick flick'...(no innuendos please Very Happy)...then it simply activates three flashes and self cancels....

It would be so useful to have this feature....but I guess we're out of luck. Big Cry
