Compressor noise on start up
Since I bought my Discovery, every morning when I first leave my house the compressor runs for around 2 minutes, which I assume is topping up the air suspension. Is this normal? I can live with it but it makes for a noisy start and being that I live next to a school, I get a lot of looks from the kids passing by!
I wondered if it could be due to my driveway being slightly uneven so when parked one of the front wheels is slightly higher (3-4cm) than the rest. Is the Discovery trying to level off when parked?
Thanks,
Craig

Running for a while on start up is normal but I sm surprised it is that noisy. Have you looked underneath the rear passenger door to see if the compressor bracket has been damaged. It is under a plastic cover. That could course the cover and compressor to vibrate. As regards levelling it will not try to get horizontal just try to get body height about the same on each corner. Some adjustment will happen when you get out, depending on your weight.2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

Sure hope running for a couple of mins on start up is normal as mine has always done it - doesn't make an awful lot of noise though
edit : kids are probably just admiring your car! 8)

Compressor on my D4 often makes a hammering noise after heavy offroad use.
Removing and vleaning the plastic housing of the compressor always solved the problem.

Owned my d3 for 7 months now and never once heard the compressor run!
It works well as I lower the suspension every time I exit the car.

Same here - noisy compressor on start up - maybe it's an Aberdeen thing! Seriously, I do wonder if it is a pre-cursor to failure. Given your post is a couple of years back - did the compressor eventually fail?

When I bought my D3 in 2011 it had a noisy compressor. It failed about a year later. I found the plastic cover was cracked and the bracket was broken in half. Previous owner obviously knocked it on something. The new Amk compressor is silent. If you go offroading a protective steel guard would be recommended

ur spot on ref the bracket , when i first got mine it made a terrible noise , on taking the cover off the bracket was broke and also the clips that held the bracket to the chassis were also broke
did end up fitting a new bracket and compressor, the difference was amazing , from inside the landy i can't hear it at all

forgot to update on my noisy compressor - turned out to be a broken bracket as per others on this post. First thing to check it would seem

Peeps have been known to 'jack' the car up and miss the jacking point and use the compressor mount instead. Very easy mistake to make when you look underneath (or rather don't).
Guaranteed bracket failure every time.
My local tyre fitters managed it with great ease on my old D3 "Track day running - Don't put your foot back on the accelerator until your absolutely sure you don't have to take it off again"
