Engine oil
It should be quite apparent that I am not a mechanic and I do need to ask a question
I need to top up my engine oil in my 2.7 D3 TDV6 and I want to be really sure I use the correct grade /type
My question is whilst earlier postings confirm what my hand book says, Castrol 5W 30 ACEA B/B3
I am confused about using semi of fully synthetic oil which I believe this is.
I had thought that older engines (whatever that means) or higher mileage engines should use mineral oil???? My engine has just covered 118K
Grateful for comments, all the best
Dean
The TDV6 is not an "older engine" and should use fully synthetic oil. The recommended oil is Castrol Magnatec 5W30 A1 which I stick to (having been supeceeded by Castrol Edge, it strikes the right balance of cost vs "quality", IMO). Some might decide to use a thicker oil on a higher mileage engine but 118K is quite reasonable for these engines. Right, so it's not an updated recomendation, just a change in the standards. Cheers. Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

I understand that C2 is for engines fitted with DPF and mine isn't, can this still be used on mine though. Dont want to do any damage here
I don't think you're the first to do that and I think the concensus was not to use it.
It's not something to risk even though it would probably be fine.Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

Disco Dazboy is spot on, went to Halfords earlier today and despite web site saying A1, sure enough it's been replaced with A5
Thanks everyone
