Break away cable question
Sorry if this is obvious, but bought a used trailer and the break away cable isnt that thick or long enough to loop to the tow eye on the d3. Am i right in thinking it should attach to the car or the tow bar itself ? I have a detachable tow bar and figure if anything would or could fail it would be that. Hence attaching the breakaway cable to the tow bar plate is pointless. Thoughts ?James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

You're spot on - the breakaway cable should not be attached to the towball and as the removable unit is all one this means you should attach it to the car itself. Hence why LR supply the loop next to the sockets. Get a longer cable - I think they're about £6 from my local Ifor dealer.
With the Detachable Towbar, I would attach it direct to the car. I don't use the towing eye though, if you look underneath where you fit the Detachable Towball, there should be an eye, either side of the Towbar entry point. Works perfect with a Carabiner clip, you can get different length Breakaway Cables.

Alko make two different cables, one is designed to loop over the towball and clip back onto itself and the other (with a carabiner clip) is designed to clip onto a fixing point on the car.
