New windscreen
I was travelling back from dropping my tintent at a site on thursday pm and was aware of being hit by something quite hard but nothing was obviously damaged. I left my D4 at home and went back in the wifes Fiat 500 so we could park in London for the Ghost bus tours. (Pronounced Ghostbusters)
On Saturday morning I had to come home and move my eldest daughter into her new flat and found a foot long curved crack in my screen. Starts in the middle bottom an goes up about 4" then right about 6" and then up again another 4". It's a proper crack and an impact point is evident where the crack turns right. I called my insurers who put me straight through to Autoglass. They said I had a £75 excess to pay but could save £10 if I went to them, being honest £10 is neither here nor there but would I be better off taking the car to the workshop rather than the screen being changed on my driveway? They also said the screen was Pilkington Optikool but it didn't say so on the screen. I said I wanted Land Rover and Pilkington Optikool on the screen and they said I would have to wait 10 days so they could get one and get the replacement authorised. I'm not wrong asking for the proper job to be fitted am I?
Your thoughts on the matter would be appreciated as ever.
Cheers
Huw

If you have a search on here about windscreens you will see that people have problems getting even Pilkington branded ones, much less Land Rover ones, so you are doing well!Andy

I have very bitter and painful experience of dealing with Autoglass. I won't go into all the detail, but:
1. Do not get it changed on you driveway. Get it done at their depot. What goes on away from the depot can be horrifying
2. The very best of luck getting a LR branded screen. It is likely to be significantly more expensive than the third party glass and the insurance company are highly unlikely to play ball.

Mine is about to have screen number 3 fitted. I think they are quite fragile.

Had a screen put in my C4 last week by Autoglass , was windy and raining when they turned up and they said they would have to arrange a new date.
I said I would be willing to go to my local fitting centre if necessary it that was easier.
The guy said I could not because all their fitting centres had been closed because they were not being used enough.
The guys now have to pick up their screens from drop centres before they start their day.

That's odd. Plymouth Autoglass is still open and their website is still giving the option to book in to the local centre, but their site then refers to Hinckley as being a "glass drop centre".
Perhaps the Hinckley one, amongst others, has shut while others have been left open?2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

I have what they call Romford Glass drop which is 5 miles away. This is where they expect me to go when the glass arrives. Looks like it's a bit of an industrial estate in Barking. Don't much fancy waiting there for it to be done but certainly not leaving it for a bunch of apes to climb over without me there. I'll give it a good clean down before I go and get some images of it. Then I have a point from which to argue my case if it all goes threepennies up. FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

I've just tried to make an appointment at Plymouth, they come to you, won't let you make an appointment to go to them

If it doesn't say Pilkington Optikool on the glass it's not Pilkington Optikool. How can it be?
Read this. Took me about 6 weeks and three visits to get my way and had to put up with all manner of nonsense but I got there in the end. Do not let them start to take your damaged glass out till you see what they have to put on your car is acceptabble otherwise it's too late to refuse.
Simple answer the difference is huge...
Pilkingtons is OEM parts status......may not have the LR logo.....but made to same strict standards....& automotive standards are very strict.
Non OEM glass....you can bet your boots made to a price (lower), not to same OEM standard, may not even be CE marked which means it doesn't conform the the BS/ISO/EN standards for windscreens.
So could be unsafe / unsuitable / not fit properly ...... The glass company are there to make a fast buck as the lower cost to them still means they charge your insurance the top dollar.
I stuck it out & got what I wanted OEM parts.....
If it were anything else safety related the insurance would insist on OEM parts....BREXIT - done properly.

There are answers in the thread I posted above. Someone somewhere on here if not in the above also points out the screen contributes x% to the structural integrity of the car and is a majorly important safety item.VR6 > 330D Touring > D3 HSE > !?XC90?!
