Finally said goodbye to old smokey... 2015MY D4 HSE coming
So very soon I'll need to change my avatar on here. After 5 years, 2 engines and 89,000 miles, I finally traded in my smoking 2010MY D4 HSE - the one which has achieved near-fame in the Faults & Fixes forum.
My dealer did me a VERY nice deal to keep me loyal to the LR brand, and to make up for not having the best experience of a Discovery to-date. I'd gotten very close to switching to something else altogether.
The move was all helped by the fact that when I called the salesman up to enquire after pricing on a new car (expecting a long lead time), he happened to be able to get a new Discovery HSE in Santorini Black with Ebony for me within 10 days from central stock. It's due in about a week's time, so I did the deal within a couple of hours of getting the price I wanted.
The only thing I'll miss on my old car is the fridge & heated steering wheel. The only extras on the new car are Grand Black Lacquer Trim Finisher, Privacy Glass and a Full Size Spare Wheel. Also got it with a 4 year servicing package, plus premium carpet mats and body side mouldings to protect the bodywork from other peoples' doors in tight car parks!
Looking forward to:
a) Having a car which doesn't pour out smoke
b) The eight-speed 'box
c) Timed climate which I see is now standard - nice!
d) Fresh styling
e) The Jaguar-esque gear knob - looks far more modern than the big stick in the 2010MY.
What else am I going to notice versus a 2010 TDV6? Do you notice the additional power? And do those mirrors make it quieter on the motorway?
And has the sound system in the HSE got better versus the 2010MY? I see it's not Harmon Kardon anymore...?
Will post some pics when she arrives.
Only thing I don't like so far is the new style of key - looks cheap and nasty versus the chunky ones it came with before.747_JK

Congratulations on the new car, I think you will notice a combination of the power and the smoothness of the 8 speed, so much better than the 6 speed, also I find to my deaf ears the sound system is better than the HK one, you'll love it Cheers Ian

I've only recently ordered my first Disco, so I'm currently waiting for delivery 1/9/15.
I spent a lot of time reading this site (and others - even reading what the cranks and nutters on Land Rover Hell had to say) and read your whole story too. I'm really pleased to hear that LR have managed to come up with the right offer to get you in a new car.
Even between the 2013 and 2015 cars (both 8 speed) that I test drove, there was a noticeable difference, so hope that you find a big improvement 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Hopefully you won't need to wear the obligatory smoking jacket for this one.

The Meridian sound system is excellent, I am really impressed with it and as far as I can remember it is better that the HK2004 FFRR (gone)

My thoughts having done 112k in my 2010 to a new 2015, now 3.5k in..
Mirrors quieter yes, but now have a blind spot
Get 40 miles less per tank
Sound system better
Suspension better but that could be just moving to new undercarriage
Gearbox good at higher speeds, sometimes has a lag at low speeds by not getting in low enough gear
Didn't want 20in wheels but were standard and actually they seem fine
Car is quicker accelerating
Rotary knob not as bad as I feared, but still not intuitive when in a hurry
Hate the stop/start
Audio/satnav phone all much improved - except daft to put the USB in the glove boxd4 HSE

That's not quiet true.... Over the first couple of thousand of miles you will get a little less MPG. But after 10,000 or so miles that should change for the better!2009 Discovery 3 HSE - Gone

First fortnight I felt like I was never out of the petrol station forecourt. Computer said I was getting about 33ish mpg. I have done two brim to brims and I am averaging about 28.5 mpg, computer says I am doing 33.5mpg....lying bar steward!2004 FFRR (gone)
