Detachable versus Front Runner Towbar |
|
Hi Gents.
I have seen on the UK forums that it isn't unusual to loose a trailer or horsebox, when using the detachable LR towbar. Is this human error, or is there a fault with the towbar?
I have a Front Runner towbar on a Disco 3, but I need to lower the ball, as the horsebox has a lower hitch to the previous one (the detachable ball is at the perfect height). The FR towbar plate only has 2 holes, so attaching a adjustable/fixed drop plate is out, or can one weld it onto the "face" of the towbar?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
I also can't find a carrying capacity for the detachable towbar. The FR is rated at 2000kg's.

Although I can not comment on the instances where the standard tow bar has come loose, I did see on mine that if the spare wheel is not winched up straight it might press the locking pin back which might cause it to come loose. Looking at it I can not see how the standard tow bar could come loose if the spare wheel is in the correct position.

Thanks louisrdev. I have opted for the Original, as it should be rated to the cars towing capacity. Hopefully the guys at LR have done their sums correctly...
