Do I wait ?
Well I've just sold my D3 , had it nearly 9 years and loved it, sad to see it go , hopefully the new owner will join us on the forums .
Not sure how long I can last using my Deafeners as family car , every time I look at what to replace it with it seems to keep coming back to D4 .
Now my dilemma, do I just get out there and look for D4 or wait until early next year when new Discovery hits the streets and lots of D4's go on the market thus bringing the prices down ?.
I think if you loved the D3 so much an 8 speed D4 will only make you smile morePaul.

Depends how important the more practical features of the D4 are to you. The lack of a proper split tail gate has left me feeling ambivalent about the D5.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

It didn't happen when the Freelander 2 was nominally "replaced" by the Disco Sport, with FL2 values holding surprisingly firm even 2 years later; I don't see any reason why it should be any different in relation to the D4 Vs D5/Disco Sport Plus.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

As a few of us have said in the Ultimate Disco thread, if you like the practicality of the D3/4, then I'd go for it. If you fancy a D4 HSE Lux, then mine should be on the LR Approved list soon and it's been a fantastic vehicle!D4 MY14 XXV - RLD/IID BT

The ones that purchased a D4 recently are hoping prices don't fall or they'll look complete plonkers that lost thousands, hence their point of view. Basically, no one knows, it's a guessing game.

You can make educated guesses though and the D5 isn't a direct replacement for the D4. I doubt that D3 or D4 prices will be greatly affected by the D5.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Same here with WBAC last year, price went up every few weeks going into winter but bottled it and decided to keep the old girl.

Can't say that I really care, I bought the car I wanted at a price I was happy with, go up go down, I dont care, I have something that is getting harder to own and the replacement isn't what I want Altox GSM FBH controller thread

Of course no one knows for sure, but it's not a complete guessing game - the experience with the very similar transition from FL2 to Disco Sport, 2 years ago, shows exactly what can happen with used values when a the replacement is an awkward mismatch to a successful original.
I've kept a very close eye on the value of my own 2015 Disco over the last 6 months; over that time, it's aged from 6 months to a year old and the mileage has gone from 15,000 to 34,000 miles, yet the value has even gone UP on WBAC - and that's after it's even after it's gone out of production!
No car is an investment (excluding some, otherwise useless, classics!) and we will all lose money. I'd rather lose money on a car I want to own though.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Time of year increases with WBAC. They fluctuate wildly week to week even in the winter or certainly did do over the last 4 years. I was keeping an eye on the value with the 2012 D4 since purchase.
That said, so long as your happy with the car you've purchased, great, but wether it was a prudent buy is another matter and if you care or not is yet another matter again.
