Peak District green lanes anyone? |
|
Travelling up to Mansfield on Wednesday and may take a long route home via the peaks. Any recommended routes to the South of the Buxton area, I can't go to far out as swmbo will wonder where I have got to!!!

How many miles do you want. Bear in mind it won't be North to South it will mean meandering.
Do you mind a bit of bramble rash?
Have you got Memory Map or the like to read a .gpx file?
Bear in mind you should never lane alone. Should you break down on a lane you'll need to be towed off it before the RAC etc will pick you up.

Want to learn such things too but with my leaning towards lanes suitable for a lone vehicle and that have pretty stops for picnic (wife and children on board)

5 lanes over a route that will cover 15-20 miles including the tarmac roads?
Finishing on A6 southbound to head you in a homeward direction.
Very scenic.
Can you read .gpx files?

The lanes around here don't have signs at the start to direct you. It will be difficult for you to find them without mapping software like Memory Map. I can't take you as I'm busy that afternoon, sorry.

That's not too far over away from me so any chance I could have the file as well? It would be good to see what to look for in other lanes too of course...

The file would be nice. The detail on the app is great. I see you can purchase the OS parts.

Same here for your file, please. I'm only in Mansfield, so I know the Peak District very well. There are two rules for success,
1. Never tell everything you know.

The Green Lane route itself is 17 miles long, covering 5 lanes.
From Mansfield the whole route is 36 miles long.
It ends southbound on the A6.
I have deliberately not included the 1st part of the first lane. DO NOT attempt the part I've not included. It is extreme and will damage your vehicles. See my avatar for the vehicle I use to drive the first part.
I will PM the route to the above requests. Have fun
