A Sunny Day In The Dales

It was a nice day for a change in sunny Yorkshire yesterday.

A group of 5 D3 & D4s met at McDonalds in Skipton (well actually 4 met and one orbited us a few times having failed the first test of the day - find the entrance Rolling with laughter )

After topping up with McCaffeine we headed off. At the turning on to the first lane I made the fundamental mistake of asking my navigator (SWMBO) the question "I turn left here don't I?" she answered "No, straight on." So I went straight on. After the group had turned round, we went back and took the turning. Of course it was all my fault Thud Laughing

A little way up the first lane, I got a call on the CB from T2BTK at the back of the group. He had been stopped by the dog walker we'd just passed. Apparently the poor chap was missing one of his dogs. A little further on, I found the missing dog on the track so stopped and promptly arrested it. T2BTK popped the suspect in the his boot and drove him back down to his worried owner. Good deed for the day done. Thumbs Up

The general theme of the day was wide open blue skies and very narrow gateways! Shocked

The next lane gave everyone a little bit of bramble rash to remember the day by - don't worry, it'll polish out. Wink

After a quick stop for a chat and some photos on the next lane,

We started to test people's driving skills with some slightly narrow gateways Whistle

So we had a quick stop at the bottom whilst the pit-crew did a F1 style wheel change (they did a better job than some of the pit-rews at last week's Australian GP!).

After another quick pit-stop (for more "natural" reasons) in Kettlewell, we headed up Stake Moss and had a lunch stop on the top.

We headed down towards Marsett and everyone opted to try Bob Lane - A short but very rocky option. Everyone got down with big grins and (as warned) only minor scrapes to the sills. No real damage done but I think some surprise from the first timers at what a capable vehicle they drive.

We missed out the fords at Marsett because of the recent damage by flood water to the lane. A nice climb up Cam High Road followed then back down to Mossy Lane, Bands Lane and then the lowest bit of West Cam Road (we didn't try the steps).

Finally, we headed up Shaw Paddock to finish the day. Of course there was the obligatory narrow gate but then some spectacular views.

Most of the group headed home after this, but nrich and I were both heading in roughly the same direction and still had a bit of spare time, so we went the scenic route and did a couple more lanes in the way. Finishing with some spectacular views of the sun setting. Unfortunately, we were being followed up the last lane by a white van so I didn't want to stop and block the lane to take photos. Hopefully SWMBO got some good ones on her phone that I can post later.

I had a great day & nice to meet you all. Hope you enjoyed it.

Mr. Green ....... Mr. Green ... Big Cry

Instead of 'enjoying' myself with your excursion as I had planned, I spent the day shoveling piles of Shetland Pony Censored (SPS) into a wheelbarrow, onto a large trailer, driving from near ''The Walls of Jericho' in an area of the Pennines called ''Little Egypt'', to the vicinity of Adel (Leeds) via 'Bay of Biscay' - and I kid you NOT, every one of those locations exists.
Once at the Censored Spreading Site, unloading the S P S was -easy- and was roundly rewarded.
But I still wish that I'd been able to Join your Jolly Jaunt... Mr. Green
Wonderful pix and commentary - plz reserve me a copy of the 1st printing of your book.

Kindest regards, Green Lane Leader... Bow down

AAA Very Happy

All right, I admit it, I had to circle McD a couple of times to work out where the entrance was.

Great day out, thanks to everyone.

My only problems were technology related:

1 Someone's little fingers had altered my camera settings and I didn't notice, so I have about half of my pictures looking like a poor impressionists paintings.

2 My new cheap dashcam worked brilliantly. Unfortunately, the files rolled over and the earliest ones were overwritten. So I have a nice video of everone shaking hands as we parted company, followed by 3 1/2 hours of motorway footage!

A few pictures:

Couldn't work out how to add pictures from my gallery to the post.

Madrilleno if you go into your gallery and click on each photo and look below the photo you will see some text which says BBCode Full Size

To the right of that is a text box with this text in it

[img]http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/userpics/42295/DSC01914.JPG[/img]

Just copy that text and paste it into the reply box and you will have posted a photo Thumbs Up

You can then do the same for any other photos you want to post.

The sculpture is at SD786986 (actually in Cumbria not Yorkshire) Thumbs Up

It's supposed to represent the river below. There's a page about it here http://www.visitcumbria.com/evnp/eden-benchmarks/

Ouch Shocked

Was it the same side - did you hit the same stone with both wheels or were you really unlucky and found two different stones?
