Cylinder Balancing Offset Query.

I had a bit of a play with the IID BT this evening, looking at the live values and stuff. I looked at the cylinder balancing offset for all six injectors. I got 3 cylinders with similar readings and 3 dissimilar readings.
Does anyone know a what the readings are, value wise and what range they should they be in.
Here they are at idle.

The exact book figures have moved about a bit over the years and they are just a guide:

18 . Run cylinder balance test from 'live data'.

Injector balance limits are between 960 and 1.4 k.

I would not worry about your numbers.

Perfect would be 1000. Anything over 1150-1200 needs investigated

Thanks Robie and DM Thumbs Up I'll not worry about them until I get a problem. I thought it was worth checking, especially with 170K miles on the clock.
Cheers guys

When do you do the test? I would guess once the car is nice and warmed up.

Mine are worse than that, I'm sure though. Sad

The values do change slightly between cold to warm and the fuel temp makes a difference too, but they should remain relational. If not then there could be an underlying mechanical issue.

Probably time to drag this bit up too:

When it comes to numbering there can also be confusion with code readers, live values and injectors. The ECM actually lists the injectors as 0 to 5, with 0=cylinder 1 and 5=cylinder 6. Cylinders 1 to 3 are also known as Bank A with 4 to 6 as Bank B. To keep a common format and to make it easier to understand some code readers list the injectors as 1 to 6.

Others list by firing order (1 - 4 - 2 - 5 - 3 - 6) which, for a RHD vehicle can make it:

- Driver’s side front cylinder, cylinder 1, injector 1

- Driver's side centre cylinder, cylinder 2, injector 3

- Driver's side rear cylinder, cylinder 3, injector 5

- Passenger side front cylinder, cylinder 4, injector 2

- Passenger side centre cylinder, cylinder 5, injector 4

- Passenger side rear cylinder, cylinder 6, injector 6

The big arrow faces the direction of forward travel:

This has confused the heck out of me at times, but then my brain is very small.

Yep, that is pretty high. Have you done any further diagnostics / spill check etc?

Not yet, it was in for the MOT the other week and asked for them to be looked at with a quick check. I need to decide whether to get them taken out and individually checked (not sure how much that costs yet), or just replace them all with the group buy on at the moment.

Replacing them all would be excessive and I am sure you have better calls on your wallet.

A spill check would probably be my next step and take it from there.

With only 1 injector reading that high, I would be inclined to only replace a single injector.

However, in the past, I have seen the high reading move to another cylinder, and then to another, until all 6 had been replaced...

More often than not though, 1 replacement is fine Thumbs Up

It's difficult to get exact readings as the values hunt all over the place. I simply took a screen shot off my phone. Obviously this is a freeze frame at one split second. The engine runs OK so I'm not worried at the moment.

I may be wrong Embarassed

I remember reading a thread that basically meant that although one injector maybe say running at 1200 it is being 'asked' to run at that level to compensate for others that are running low ....

So in other words the one at 1200 may be the best one Rolling Eyes
