Great start to new year - NOT |
|
Hope this isnt the start of a bad year - Jan 2nd, My D4 got in the rear by in white transit van - a glancing blow, but bumper smashed, offiside light smashed, corner of rear wing, plus wheelarch.
He then thought he wouldnt stop!! - never going to outrun me in a transit, not even after a one way street the wrong way, and the wrong way round an island. He stopped, driver jumped out, and before I got to the van, it drove off again. Driver ran off.
Whilst I was "following" him, we called the police - not figgin interested - their words "if no one injured, then go to police station and fill in "self reporting" form.
We did get the reg number, and plod (well civilian) at the station did confirm it is actually registered and showing as insured, and at that point not showing as stolen.
But, takes about 3 days before plod go and check it out, as an offence of leaving the scene had occured, but you have to ask why he tried to scarper - drunk maybe? In 3 days he will be sober!
He might even deny being there at all, and only witness is my 16yr old daughter who was with me.
My missus is saying she amazed at how calm I've been when all I wanted to do was kick seven shades out of the driver, but I think I'm now old enough to realise how badly some situations can turn out, so it - insurance job it is. DL, my insurer are telling me that see it as all reclaimable from his insurance, so lets see how if that true - its in for repair next Friday.

A bit of a bummer Al ..but at least the insurers are offering a thread of comfort.
The police situation is sadly only going to get worse as a whole new batches of offences will drop down the priority list as the cuts bite deeper 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

In a way it could be a good thing you didn't catch him, you just dont know what people are carrying these days.
Unfortunately, even if you are totally innocent it can still affect your insurance, I was hit whilst stationary waiting for a car to come out of a space a few years back and it still gets taken into account.
Hope it all works out ok. Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Sorry to hear about your adventures, Al.
As we say here in Greece, health is all that matters and since you are all ok, let it go. 8) (I know it's more easily said than done... )

A friend of mine had a similar incident ...
He complained to the police on a similar situation ... went a few days later with an update
To advise the Police that injuries had manifested themselves and it is now a criminal matter not civil ....
The PC involved took a full statement ...
He said it places everything from a 'not our issue' into 'they must act' kinda issue....
The change in prosecution and involvement was dramatic ...... also let your insurance know as although you will be paid out on his insurance for the injury its the only way to get the Police to act in the way you want to ....
A quick visit to the doctors to back it up also helps .... unfortunately its a game .....
They wont help so make them help
As it states on here with back injuries it can take days before it shows up -
http://www.all-about-car-accidents.com/car-accident-injuries.html D4 Front upgrade/cut back wings n things 'taking a long time but getting there'.
D4 rear upgrade - Narpys helped with that bit
Flack for problem solving and D4 Bluetooth Install/ D4 Heated Steering wheel with Flappy paddles n BBS enabling kit
Disco Mikeys work - Serviced, EGR blanking and 4x4 software upgrade, 3 flash indicators.

Bobs, I do hope your not suggesting that Al "fakes" an injury in order that the police take a bit more action?
Because its people doing exactly that, that causes our premiums to increase

I'm quite surprised how different the systems are between UK and Germany...reading this surprises me even more...
But telling the police you have an injury doesn't mean you want to get something from the insurance. It just changes the case for the police. At least here in Germany. Cheers Patrick from Munich

I understand .... as my Dad was a traffic officer
Depends on what 'Al' feels is the right thing to do I was merely pointing out the options -
Option 1 -
He could place himself in control of the situation though if he wanted.... Police now 'helping him' and doing what we all feel is the right thing and visit the owner of the van ....
Police visit 3rd party as there is now an injury get statements and prosecute.
Al does not proceed with a claims on the 'injury' as he felt payment wasn't warranted (that answers your post)
Option 2
The other driver denies all knowledge as no witness ..... Al's costs are not recouped and premiums go through the roof.
The numpty gets away with it and no Police get involved as all he tells his insurance it wasn't him.
What is the right thing to do your call...... D4 Front upgrade/cut back wings n things 'taking a long time but getting there'.
D4 rear upgrade - Narpys helped with that bit
Flack for problem solving and D4 Bluetooth Install/ D4 Heated Steering wheel with Flappy paddles n BBS enabling kit

Guys
The van is showing as being insured, so for now, want my car fixed and all costs covered. Direct Line are (for now anyway) telling me thats how they see it panning out, although only time will tell.
Yes, I could have said injuries had occured, and got plod out, but there wasnt, so maybe I'm not "playing" the game as smartly as others seem to.
I'd be hypocritical if I did say injuries had occured, as that I've had a few rants in the past about bogus insurance claims, but I do understand the sentiment behind comments here.
Blackvue arrived this morning, now need car to put it in

Al,
I understand and it is a moral dilema ..... I wasn't saying claim for money just tidy up the admin so you get assistance in bringing those who ignore justice to justice
My friend had the issue that even though the insurance claimed from the other insurance company ....the owner said they were not involved ...
So the other insurance company ignored all claims .... his insurance company then tried to apply all data on the claim to his history as a 'fault' (no costs recovered claim) which then follows him around and effects his premium.... and it wasn't his fault
Insurance companies forget to tell you that bit ....
The other party don't seem to lie to the Police for some reason and admit it (in most cases) .... hope it all goes as expected for you .... fingers crossed .... D4 Front upgrade/cut back wings n things 'taking a long time but getting there'.
