Quick swap hints for LR Expo rack?

I'm meeting with Brendan next Friday to swap a mutually acceptable pile of used £££s for his LR Expo rack. As is the way with these things, the swap will be taking place in a car park rather than a workshop.

I've printed the installation manual from the LR Owner Info website and it all seems pretty straightforward. I'm swapping my front rail covers with Brendan, so no drilling will be needed on the day.

As I'm going to be taking the rack off again when I get home (so I can remove the side rails and front air dam/cowl and add some ali plating or similar) I'll probably skip on installing the front supports/fins until the rack gets remounted. On that basis, it all looks pretty straightforward.

Before I get all sure of myself, are there any potential pitfalls I should be looking for? Apart from the obvious one of me only being 5'6" while Brendan is, well, a fair bit taller!
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Take a box to stand on. Don't drop it on your roof. Access height. Its very easy for two people of even height (hence the box)

Bow down

Thank you Gareth..... Mr. Green

I'll take a few boxes, so I can walk the length of the car at the required height. Razz

Been there done that!
Whats not written on the intructions if my memory serves me right,or is it I didn't read the insructions and guessed it was right, was the flat plates with the upright studs drop into the roof rails and then you have to slide them along to a point at which the other plate drops onto it with the curve edge down. The rear edge of the rack lines up with the back of the window just so you don't have sunroof reset problems too.
Thumbs Up
It would be silly to open the sunroof late at night with a rack not in the correct position though wouldn't it. Embarassed

Bodsy, that presupposes that I have friends.

Fisherman, much appreciated. The instructions do show the plates being slid along to the relevant indents in the roof rail, but not that the rear of the rack lines up with the rear window. No sunroof on my lowly SE.....

Another small "tip"...

When you are walking the rack over the car to drop it in place, come from the back...

If you come from the front, the mirrors suddenly mean that you may not be tall enough to clear...

I suppose that you could always remember to fold the mirrors first though - eh Stu - Whistle

ND, I'll be refitting it to mine the day beforehand so that should refresh my memory on how it all works, but it seemed very easy when I removed it anyway - just needed an allen key and that was it. A little 2 step step ladder works fine for getting in at the nuts, so if you have one, bring it. Smile

Do I have one? With a D3 and my height? Of course!

Cheers all
