What oil does it take and how much? Is there a link to the relevant info on ZF site at all or anywhere else?Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Ok, rephrase that one, where is the filter, I'm assuming it's the large flat type in the bottom? Don't see an 8 speed on on AF site, but their price for oil is very good compared to anywhere else I can see on lineJoined the BMWX5 45e group

Dave,I've been in conversation with DM about getting this done.....the issues as described above would leave about half a litre of unflushed oil in the cooler and associated pipework (if my memory of the conversation is correct)....so a flush would not be 100% effective. For me,at the moment that makes it very expensive for something that is not going to be a complete oil change,if you take into account the amount needed to flush and refill.....I personally will get it done at some point, but as it's a good chunk more expensive than the 6-speed due to the cost of the aforementioned oil,I'm going to await any further developments
It's a question of a partial flush,or just a straight oil change at the moment as I see it"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Not sure how it could be done to just leave 0.5L in the oil cooler.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Rob,as I said,I only remembered 0.5l being mentioned in relation to the percentage left unflushed with a closed cooler...of course if the amount,as you suggest,is greater than that, then the financial and preventative reasons for a flush are reduced even further.... As I currently understand it there is no apparent way to plumb the flushing gear into the system. The obvious place would have been the oil cooler using Geoff's adaptors (Mike has a set of these) but that is on the wrong side of the thermostatic valve. In a way the oil in the cooler is the easiest to get at. We have chewed the fat about connecting direct to the box itself but it is not easy.

Excuse the stupid question, but does the thermostatic valve prevent flow in either ie both directions? ... in other words, it can't be back flushed can it?Long succession of Disco's since 2001...

Hi guys
I wondered if anybody has found a way round the temperature control valve issue that is stopping the flushing of the box?
My 8sp is in real need of a flush, it's quite jerky sometimes between gear changes I am at 70k miles and have had the fluid changed at 60k but clearly the dirty oil in the cooler can't be replaced and will have been circulated around the box, this appears to defeat the object of a fluid change?
