D4 at dealers, could have a diff issue
2009 D4 90000miles was making a noise which sounded like a bearing wear noise. Ran it into my local independent and they confirmed it was the one replaced under warranty by LR last year (oct) at the main dealer, so best to take it back.
Took it to dealers to claim under warranty for replacement parts as my main warranty has run out. Car had been left with the main dealer they state it's NOT the bearing. Car not safe to drive, leave it with us as need a proper check, possibly the diff
Confused! Sounds expensive, whatever it may be CLUB DEFNER

My front diff was replaced last year (admittedly under warranty) at just 26k miles....I was convinced it was a wheel bearing....fingers crossed for you "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Typically a bad service at the moment form the dealership
Advised Monday it's the diff, will cost £3200, I asked what's and why and said they would call me back. Called me back, might just be a bearing gone, so might be a small saving on the £3200!! Not called me back yet telling me what's wrong since that call on Monday.
They have had the car since Wednesday last week, still not advised me what's wrong.
Wonder how long I should wait CLUB DEFNER

Chelmsford Essex
I am not going to pretend I know the ins and outs of parts, but I am being informed its the input shaft bearing. So transmission not diff...
They offered
option 1, replace transfer box £3,500, which is the official LR recommendation. this is because the bearing is not available from LR as a replacement product.
option 2, they offered to get an aftermarket replacement bearing (circa £25-£30) plus the labour on top, offer no guarantee/warranty as not their component and there could be damage inside.
This seams such an odd service. Asked for a detail breakdown of option 1, not got that yet.
They want £750 for diagnosing the issue now...yeah right.CLUB DEFNER

Interesting - I went to Chelmsford for a rumble that I suspected was diff (D3 90k mikes) First diags 30 mins pointed at wheel bearings which I duly changed but rumble continued. Took it back, another 30 mins diags and was told I needed a new transfer box @ £3k plus. Lots of arguments with my warranty company who eventually footed the bill. Unfortunately the rumble is still there. At the same time I had a tailgate lock problem, another 30 min diag pointed at the latch/cable, again replaced under warranty, fault persisted and so I had a look, turned out to be ice and muck in the switch housing which had pretty much disintegrated. Not a hard thing to spot. Regarding the rumble, a forum member suggested I try an IR temperature probe on the calipers after a drive to see if anything's binding. NSR caliper was at 50+ degrees compared with other 3 at 20 ish degrees so sat SWMBO in the rear seat by the NSR wheelarch and indeed it would seem the rumble is more pronounced there. Driving on my own I would have said it was generated from around passenger footwell. Not had a chance to change the caliper yet but have a strong suspicion it's the culprit. Waffling a bit but I would ask exactly what diags were done and consider taking it elsewhere for a second opinion .... the IR probe was a fairly cheap Fluke gadget and a great way to save burning your fingers to see if a caliper is hot ......

Try talking to LR Customer Services and see if they'd be prepared to contribute to the cost.
They have their own section on the forum and try Pete@LandRover.

I used to load in a place near Ongar and there was an independent in the yard who always seemed to have tidy Land Rovers about him. Anybody use him?
