Secondary turbo failure

(Formerly) proud owner of a MY2010 Disco 4 HSE with about 107,000 miles here... A few weeks ago, whilst accelerating down a motorway slip road I got the now familiar jolt and "Restricted Performance" warning accompanied by a lack of acceleration at anything above about 45ish mph. After stopping, switching off, waiting for a few minutes and switching back on again all was ok, but it then happened again after a couple of days and continues to do so.

Off to the dealer it went, where they initially diagnosed (as expected) a faulty airflow sensor. Replaced one, then the other sensor and it didn't make a difference, so then we moved on to the turbo actuator. Part ordered and fitted, but it actually made the car a little worse. So now, after talking to Land Rover, Bosch Technical and some independents, the dealer has diagnosed a failure of the secondary turbo, as the fault seems to happen around 2,800rpm, when apparently the primary cuts over to the secondary. Kind of makes sense to my basic understanding of what's going (and what's supposed to go on) on under the hood.

Body is being removed from the car as I type... Not looking forward to the bill Sad

Any other ideas/thoughts as to what it could be?

Anything else worth checking/doing while the body's off?

I know a dealer wont...but you can get the turbo off without taking the body off.

cracked inlet manifold

Just got a call today. Now that the body is actually off they've discovered a cracked inlet manifold. Going to go have a look-see later.

There's also a brake pipe going to the rear of the car that sounds like it could do with replacing while they've got the body off, plus they're thinking that it might be worthwhile doing the fuel pump belt and the timing belt.

If it hasn't had the belts done already (due 105k miles) then definitely!

112k for a MY10 3.0ltr according to the spec sheet I have, but they're being done anyway seeing as it's a good opportunity. Thumbs Up

I think they looked at that already. They're saying that the fault is due to an imbalance between the two manifold pressures, so they don't think that a problem with one of the turbos or actuators etc. would cause that. We'll see... They were supposed to have an engineer out from the warranty company on Thursday morning and be putting it back together then, but I've not heard from them Crying or Very sad
