Halogen bulbs
Just tried to upgrade the headlamp bulbs in my 2015my Discovery SE. Checked the manual which indicated H7 lamps so I bought some Phillips x-treme vision +130 in that size .However on removing the headlamps I found the bulbs were significantly different in shape and the H7s would not fit. Checked with my dealer and it seems for this model year they have changed the bulbs to Phillips HIR2 but not updated the manual. HIR2s at £35.00 each are a lot more expensive than the H7s at £19.99 the pair. This is just a heads up so no one else wastes time and money buying the wrong bulbs.

Your ugraded H7s wouldn't be wasted if you put them in the high beam part of the lights. I have +110%s on mine and it makes a big difference. Assuming they are H7s like on the old humble D3s. Best ask here, not look in the manual. LR don't expect anyone to read it so not too fussed at keeping it accurate.

On this vehicle there is no high beam bulb, it uses a shutter system to shield the bulb in low beam and opens for main beam

Decided to wrap them up and give them to my daughter for xmas. They should fit her Kuga ok

LR did the same with the Freelander 2, they also forgot to update the manual in that instance.

I thought they had an extra bulb from this pic. What's in the bit below & inside of the normal goldfish bowl bit and above & inside the fogs?

On the SE model they are used for the sidelights and DRLs. The manual says it is a w3w bulb but the lights are brighter when used as DRLs than side lights. Didnt check when I had the lamp units out

I've just been caught out too. I bought H7 Osram Nighbreakers last year as spares before going to France.
Today I thought I'd swap them over. Dismantled the front of the car per instructions, only to find the odd Philips-type bulb instead.
Thanks Land Rover - I wonder if you'd like to refund the £14.38 I spent on the now-useless Osrams? And I wonder if you'd have refunded the fine in France if I'd encountered an over-zealous le plod?
I went by the spec in the manual - where even the "identifying what type of bulb" picture on page 189 shows an H7 - although I now notice that the next picture showing the bulb replacement shows the Philips version - so it's not the case that the change came after the manual was finalised.
It can't be that hard to produce correct bulb specs can it? And they are ONLY found in the manual - nowhere on the LR website.

I was a bit worried about the halogens after being used to xenons but haven't really had a problem with these. Standard lamps seem pretty decent ?Velar MY18 D180 S Narvik

I find the standard halogens are fine - good on dipped, can't always seem much difference when on full beam! They could sometimes be a little brighter, but I detest Xenons (or at least other people's as they dazzle everyone else in sight) so happy that I have regular halogens (XS spec).

According to Phillips bulbs are bright white with colour temp at 3450k better light output, i have them and my daughter said she could see a tinge of blue in light when i was behind her car.

I;ve had this too. Spent £60.00 in Halfords on them and they supplied them based on my reg. Need to take them back... See what happens, proper PITA though as my nearest Halfords is in the centre of town 60 mile round trip away.26 and on the 4th LR..

I'm not happy with the standard bulbs in my 2014MY Discovery 4, so have been trying to research exactly what bulbs are installed with a view to replacing them. I emailed LR and got this reply today:
"After referring your enquiry to the technical department at one of our retailers, they have confirmed that the current handbook reflects the technical specifications of your Discovery 4 SE. The bulbs in question are H7 Halogen bulbs, and spare bulbs are available at retailers throughout the UK for £5.99 including VAT. Part Number - XZQ000011"
I'm not convinced - but will go ahead and buy some xtreme 130s or nightbreakers anyway - then see what the score is when I open up the units to change them.
