Stone in between brake plate and disc
Chaps, I suspect I'm suffering from this ailment, I'm going to tackle it tomorrow, is it merely a case of jack up car, remove wheel and have a poke around, or is there anything more I should know about while under there?

Just as you've said, a poke around with a screwdriver, gentle pressure on the back plate is usually enough for it to drop out, will take you longer jacking/removing wheel

Daft question, but have you tried simply reversing for a distance? I've dislodged many a stone like that

As MrH says reversing for a distance and apply brakes hard usually frees it off and gets rid of the stoneMY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

This used to be a regular problem with a Defender I was drove and punctures as well. I got really quick at jacking it up, the F1 teams would have been proud (after they stopped laughing that is!).Andy

Aye tried reversing although hasn't dislodged it, but was quieter. I'm considering driving everywhere in reverse until I can get my hands on a jack tomorrow! Mike

Hope it's just a stone. When I had a sticking calliper the pad overheated and started to break up. It sounded the same. Fingers crossed Went for a job as a human cannonball. Not the right calibre.

Well, I had the rear wheel off yesterday, had a good old dig around and clean, copious amount of brake cleaner, put wheel back on and tested. Seemed to go away, but no it's back. Got a mechanic mate to look at it with me last night and this morning, and when I apply the EPB the right side of the car dips slightly, and the left (where the issue is), doesn't, although you can hear it. We think this points to the handbrake shoes / mechanism, and there is nothing for it but to take the lot apart.
That's not a problem, but looking at the discs, if they're off I may as well replace them all as they are worn. Can anyone recommend the best parts to fit (worth upgrading to V8 spec?), and if there's anyone on here worth buying from?
Yes (NB: It is advisable not to upgrade the rears only)

Steve thanks for the link. I'll speak to my mechanic mate tomorrow and get the use of his ramp, then get ordering. Bearing in mind I'm new round here, and I've never worked on a car that has two braking systems at the back wheels, is there anything else I'm likely to need that the kit doesn't include, how long to deliver and are there any 'to watch out for' elements to changing this stuff over?
You will need to adjust the handbrake shoes. Potentially, these could be in need of replacing too (they can get in quite a state). Correct adjustment is key to avoiding a screaming handbrake so it's a good thing to be able to do yourself.
Otherwise, all nice and simple. I've found the torx screw holding the disc on can potentially be a pain so I've taken to not torqueing it up (it doesn't really do anything anyway). Steve's kits should include all you'll need (besides the tools, obviously!).
