Really quick interior swap question |
|
Hi All,
My Alpaca cloth trim in my '05 D3 S is starting to look really tired and the driver seat pad bolster is getting worn.
I am going to be looking to repair/replace it soon and I just want to know:
If I am going to replace the whole interior (7 seat model) am i just restricted to D3 interiors? or will D4 or RRS interiors fit (am thinking about door cards as well.
Thanks

Hi Kyle,
I just got myself pair of D4 front seats for my D3, hoping to try fitting them this weekend so should be able to tell you very soon how easy it is.
There are a few posts kicking around on the forum of other members having fitted RRS and D4 seats to D3's.
I have been struggling a bit with how to wire up the electric parts but got a few pointers in the last few days from some of the forum members which will hopefully sort me out. Also not 100% sure if D4 seats just bolt in directly to a D3 or if you need to swap seat frame etc - time will tell.

Cool thanks guys.
Mark got your PM ta, let me know how you get on fitting and wiring the D4 seats.
I am going to have to think on my options: My foams are pretty good and the seats are early S-spec so are heated front and rear which is nice.
I could go down the cheaper route and get a re-trim, whilst the covers are off it would be sensible to replace the foams as well. Pluses are its cheaper and I know my current seats fit and are obviously wired correctly.
Downsides are its a lot of work and I'm not sure I have the finesse/skill to make them look as good as factory upholstery.
Alternatively as its only really the front drivers seat that has damage I could go down the more expensive route of replacing the whole interior with a much nicer leather interior.
Then when my old interior is out I could give it a really good upholstery clean and get just the drivers seat repaired in cloth and sell it to someone who wants to do a commercial conversion and hopefully re-coupe some of the expense.
Downside is a: finding a suitable interior and b: figuring out the wiring if I go for anything other than heated manual adjustment D3 seats and obviously c: the initial expense of buying another interior.
