Sailsbury Plain with side steps
Quick question, I've got an chance to go for a drive around Sailsbury Plain tomorrow. I've never really off roaded the disco since I've owned it, it's got genuine side steps. I'm a bit worried about damaging them and the body work generally.
I was more happy off roading when I owned my 90 and didn't care for the body work.

The vast majority you will be fine, but there are some deeper ruts that they may get bent at. You can usually take another route as there's loads of byways all over the plains. Stay out of the tank tracks!Bodsys Brake Bible

Have never damaged anything worse than a tyre on the Plain but I'd worry about wrecking side steps in the ruts. If you'd be upset if they were damaged I'd take them off. Have fun!

Thanks Guys, that was generally my thoughts also. Sadly left it a little too late to remove the side steps for a 9am departure, let alone tackle the state of the bolts holding them on!
Think I may have to take extreme care or take a miss for tomorrow.
Umm decisions.

Use mine on the Plain with sidesteps all the time. Just exercise a little care and fore thought you will be fine.

As others have said, side steps will be fine as long as you take it steady and use common sense.
Just a word of warning, stay away from Copehill Down. All of the by-ways in the Chitterne, Tilshead, Shrewton triangle, as all of them are closed until April

I would love to have joined you but taking SWMBO to Caerleon to see the Roman remains.
Would really appreciate it if someone could post a map to show where you are going as I have only driven the perimeter roads, the middle post road and Imber when it is open
Taught the kids to drive from the age of ten up there so they were driving like pro's when they finally started driving at 17.

Really looking forward to it. Any advice greatly received.

I don't suppose anyone can give an update on the state of the plains, and if there is any live firing happening this Sunday 25th Jan? I have tried the MOD firing times phone number several times, it just goes to answerphone, no recorded message or pick up.
Many thanks
