EGR problem (was in "Say hello here")
RAC just confirmed fault to be sticking EGR valve. He cleared fault on diagnostics and tapped both EGR valves. Started up a treat although he advises that I should get them changed as will happen again.
He said they get mucked up and motor should be driven hard once in a while to help them stay clean so I just did a blast down motorway in hope that this will mean will start in morning.
Sounds expensive but I will take his advise I think as don't want recurring problem.
Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do
Cheers
Dean
deanslandy, it is a very common issue. You'll find lots of info with a search. If you have a EU3 (up to 06MY) engine, they can just be blanked. An EU4 (07MY on) engine needs emulators and a software patch to allow this.
Best to start a separate thread if you want to discuss it further.Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

lost for words, thanks, mine is 07 plate 2.7 tdv6 HSE, and am loving it! Always wanted a proper motor.
I think I'll just put new valves on though rather than blank
cheers

Ooo, and I was the first to post on it. << Post moved so no longer relevant
Dean, as den2013 says, it's better for it to be blanked. Unfortunately yours is probably a EU4 so this would be more complex and expensive - but still better for the engine. Lost for Words, But he might be okay if it's the early one, as been discussed before some are okay some are not, best use the 2p trick first to find out if thats the case.2015 D4 HSE LUX Kaikoura Stone(sold)

Lost for words. Hi yes I am definitely interested in blanking off now but how do I know whether my engine will take that & can you tell me about the 2p trick.

Hi all, I would like to replace valves for blanks but Just pulled this off internet
DISCOVERY 3 / RANGE ROVER SPORT 2.7 TDV6 2004-2007 MODELS. DENOTED BY THE 10TH DIGIT OF THE CHASSIS NUMBER - IF IT'S 5 OR 6 THEN THE KIT IS SUITABLE FOR YOUR CAR. IF IT'S 7 ONWARDS THE KIT WILL FIT BUT THE MIL WILL REMAIN ILLUMINATED TO INDICATE AN EGR FAULT.
I have 7 as 10th digit and don't want fault illuminated so is this still an option?
Thanks for any advice you may share

Dean,
Mines an 07 MY & has been blanked without issue. Light may come on in the future though so may fit emulators anyway. Better than replacing valves every 40k miles though.

Dean,
As RBP says it might be okay, search the forum for EGR 2p and read through, using the 2p gives you some idea if it will work or not, basically pull the valve apart insert 2p and try, if the light shows up then you will need the emulator kit from BAS. 2015 D4 HSE LUX Kaikoura Stone(sold)

I was thinking he'd said it was an 07 plate (i.e. less likely since the first 07MYs would have been 56 plates). Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

I'm thinking of having EGR's blanked on my 2006 model but before I do can anyone tell me if this modification should be brought to the attention of my insurance provider? I can call them, I know, but don't want to flag the mid if it is not required..
I decided against, as it is not a major change, doesn't increase the power and IIRC was something done by LR dealers when there was an EGR valve sortage.
Your call though. Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

EGR valves
Hi & thanks for advice everyone . Unfortunately I can't be without motor so I've plumped for replacement EGR valves this time. I have bought now and in process of fitting. I checked out price and availability of emulators but as the time was against me I've had to make a call. What are your thoughts on fuel additives to try and help keep carbons down? I've looked at Archoil ar6400-d pro
Cheers
