My Suspension Calibrating IIDTool BT

Since buying my D3 I've been convinced that it's lower on the rear left hand side than the right, so after buying myself an IIDTool I thought I'd attempt to calibrate the suspension. I'm posting my results on here to try and get some peace of mind that I've done it correctly and that the results look how they should!

I started out buy doing all the things the manual says to before measuring my existing height and then I went on to take the measurements.

Front Left: 483
Front Right: 474
Rear Left: 483
rear Right: 490

I then set the right hand side to the correct measurements that I'd read in one of Robbie's posts, 485mm rear and 466mm front, from centre of wheel to underside of wheel arch. For some reason I found it hard to raise or lower an individual corner by a few mm, I'd make the adjustment but the vehicle wouldn't change. So if I wanted to go up buy two I'd go up by twelve and down by ten, this way seemed to work ok!

For some reason I then raised it and lowered it again, followed by the five metres forward and five metres back, and then re measured............I'm not quite sure why I did that extra step Embarassed

After measuring to check the Right hand side measurements were as I wanted them I then measured the Left hand side and filled in the GAP Calibration Aid.

I then calibrated the Left hand side using the Right as reference. I didn't take more measurements until today as it got dark! I took the D3 out for a few miles last night and put a few things back in the boot (nothing heavy) so hope this doesn't affect todays readings.

Front Left: 469
Front Right: 468
Rear Left: 479
Rear Right: 488

One thing I did notice yesterday after calibrating is how the front seemed to be lower one side and the rear a little lower on the opposite side, or am I just paranoid and looking for problems?!!

Hi Ben

You've done it correctly.

The system does allow a 10 mm offset from the target height. Add to that an uneven terrain and yes, it may look crooked. I did the calculations with your measurements, calibration and current heights and you are spot on. Well done!

Cheers Thumbs Up

Cheers mate Thumbs Up

It's actually not that hard if you stick to the instructions, I just needed reassurance I'd done it correctly!

Once I got the Right hand side to the right height it was easy going..........getting it there was the bit I found difficult! Rushing to get it done in time was another issue as I had somewhere to be!

Way too High

Hi from Germany,

i bought the idd tool Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
Three thumbs up for that one.
now i seem to have the Problem that i cant calibrate the car down.
My left sensor is at the minimum of 150 and the right one is calibrated using the left.
So Left and Right are calibrated (big difference between left and right 150 to 223). But it isway too high. 510mm.
i should adjust down but the left cant go deeeper.
The left Sensor is a new one. can ist be that "they" put in a Rear Sensor?
Are the new sensors different?
PLease help as the car is Bonging and my Wife is nagging.....

Warmest regards

Dutchrockboy

@Dutchrockboy

Yes the arms on the height sensors are a different length on the front and back.. they can also be fitted wrong.. Have you got a touch screen in your car that will show you the sensors in the 4x4 menu?. if so what are they showing in there.

Flack Thumbs Up

Hi Flack,

the 4x4 Display looks normal.
I have the IDD bluetooth tool.
My left sensor is calibrated on 150mm and still the car is about 6 cm to high on standard.
I seem not to be able to adjust the sensor down.
Can it be that it is an newer one?

Can i trick it by shortening the Sensor arm?

Hello All,

i now found out that my new sensor is not giving the right values.
Wenn the car rises 6 cm than the height sensor only gives a difference of 2 cm.

The other sensors are ok.

what kind of sensor is this:?

I can´t find the number.
