"transmission fault" in a D4

No, I've not gone and sneakily upgraded, this is for my Folk's D4. It's one of the last of the 6-speeders and up to today has been faultless. However 15 miles into a drive it came up with "Transmission Fault" which cleared after a restart. I don't think the behaviour changed, they just found a lay by and switched off. They have no way of reading codes and are 450 miles from me so no way I can do anything for them.

Any thoughts on this? I've told them not to worry about it as it cleared on restart and hasn't come back when driving after that. Plus if it reoccurs get it into the dealer or phone LRA.

TIA

D

Fuel filter choked. Is it nearly due a service?

Mid summer for service, 3rd one I think. Fuel filter should have been changed last July (if same as D3) & they don't do many miles, probably only 5 or 6k since then.

Daft question but how would a bunged up fuel filter give a transmission fault? Confused

Engine shuts down to protect itself, and subsequently looses comms with the other modules. If the engine and box can't talk to each other, it throws up the trans fault

Roughly Thumbs Up

Cheers. Thumbs Up

They'll probably get it into the Cardiff dealers to have a look as it's still in warranty. Lucky them. Big Cry Big Cry

I have had it a few times over the past two years or so, and it's been when the car's been started a few times and not driven. No faults/codes logged, so I'm wondering whether it's a spurious D4 thing, like the D3's "special programs off" when the battery is getting a bit low? Always clears on a re-start.
