Wheel weight & tyres

Just wanted to share my fun - new Cooper ATRs (LT265/70/17) on LR 17 inch wheels. I wondered about the change to unsrpung weight (unfortunately I could not weigh the new 17 combo vs the 18 inch standard setup). But, one interesting fact - wheel only, the LR 17x7 weighs 11.4kg. The 18x8 (5 spoke design 1) weighs 2.2kg more, so I've got a bit of scope to handle the heavier tyre.
So far, I am really pleased - clearly beefier, noise difference is imperceptible, and at 40psi, the ride has improved.

you could always click on the red triangle and report yourself Shocked or the mods will see your distress signal and wipe it, then again just don't worry about it. welcome Mr Andrew

Tyre size and NSW rules

Hi Mr Andrew,
FYI, you might want to check this document: http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/dow...9_rev4.pdf

In particular, the last paragraph on page 2 says:
"The outside diameter of the wheel and tyre combination must be no more than 15mm over the largest diameter
wheel and tyre combination specified for the vehicle and not more than 15mm below the smallest diameter wheel
and tyre combination specified for the vehicle."

Looks like you have gone 39.6mm over the diameter of 17 and 18" tyres. Not sure what the diameter of 19" option.

Keep the above in mind when you go for your pink slip at the end of the year. You might like to find a garage which is sympathetic to 4x4s!

Cheers,
Rob

Hi Rob
Yes, I did know about this, talked about it with the retailer, they said not an issue, and could be rectifed with an engineers cert. if I was worried about it. Quite frankly, I doubt if a normal person/inspector would even notice. And I guess if it gets desperate, I can bolt my std 18's back on.
Interestingly, the change in OD seems to have rectified my speedo error, speedo now matches gps much more consistantly.
What have you ended up doing? You have your AT2's on std 18s?

Hi Mr Andrew,
Still waiting for the AT2s to become available... they are the only AT tyre (un)available for 18" wheels... <sigh>
Cheers,
Rob
