Torque coverter slip when cold TDV6

When driving my disco 3 TDV6 from cold, I notice that there is a lot of torque converter slip and can even run at 3000 rpm in 6 gear doing 80 km/hr . When the vehcile is hot this does nto tend to happen...normally at 80km/hr in 6th gear the revs are +- 1500 rpm. My question is, is this normal as part of a warm up programme or is this a problem? LR dealer does not know either.

Thanks

Mine does it, I assumed (yes I know it stands for ‘a55 out of you and me’) that it was a design built in to help the engine get warmed up, I could be wrong.

I have just had the LR dealer on the line who has checked another 2 new vehicles and guess what...they all do it...so it seems normal. They have just changed my gearbox for nothing and it took 5 days!!!!

Maybe your dealer should have asked us first! No wonder Ford wants to sell it Neutral

The torque convertor does not lock up until the oil reaches a set temperature. I am surprised your dealer did not know this, the Disco 2 was the same, so its not as though its new technology.

Glad your happy now though Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
