Annoying rattle - fuel reset tool?

I have spent half an hour tracking down an annoying rattle which turned out to be the fuel reset tool knocking the bottom of the storage box at the rear of the car. Before I just wrap it up, it occurred to me that it is a very complicated moulding.

All those slots on the handle suggest it stores somewhere, slides into a slot perhaps. Am I right? Does anybody know?

Well I've never found the correct place to store it, I normally just put it in one of the storage bins wrapped in a cloth Thumbs Up

The elastic band around the tool kit keeps it rattle free.

If you put a petrol nozzle in the tank it should close of the neck of the tank to stop you filling with petrol and that's used to release the flap.

Not sure I would trust it though, as assuming the Jaguar one works the same the last time I was in my local dealer, one of the service staff were on the phone cancelling an appointment as the courtesy XF had been filled with petrol.

On a D4, but not on a D3.

I had to use that tool a few times in Morocco.

Although the pumps did deliver diesel they were fitted with the petrol nozzles. So I had to release the flap, and tell the attendants not to put the nozzle in so far.

After many years chiding people who "wrong fuel" cars I did it in my RRS earlier this year Embarassed

Was 'on fumes' and I started chucking unleaded fuel in, got to about £45 when I thought to myself to ensure I got a VAT receipt for the...............oh Censored .........petrol....... for my diesel car:roll:

The anti-fill system failed to operate (in that narrow petrol nozzle bypasses some fingers sticking out in filler neck so shuts the fail-safe flap to 'prompt' you as it won't go in any further).

I reported it internally at JLR on the reporting system in place for company cars and was told it was a known issue with a more robust fix imminent.

One expensive lesson learned by me, around £250 with the lost fuel Rolling Eyes
