I joined DISCO3 back in 2007 when I bought my first D3 and loved the friendly feel of the place and the banter between members. I really appreciated the wealth of knowledge on all things Disco.
I've also attended a few events over the years, including Tong, Kielder and the Bush Camp weekend in deepest Sussex. I've bought and sold items to other members, taken advantage of group buys and even been recognised whilst out and about wearing my Disco3 fleece and from stickers on the car.
I'm on my third Disco now (well D4 anyway), but lately the Forum seems to have become a less friendly place - I've seen some sniping between members, people moaning about moderators and generally a less pleasant atmosphere.
Maybe it's because I don't visit as often as I used to or post quite so much but the whole experience doesn't seem so pleasurable any more. I'm not about to leave (unless the D4 goes at some stage) and maybe I'm just having the winter blues - but is it only me who feels things have changed a little? 2013 D4 HSE Luxe in Indus Silver

My experience is that it is seasonal, more time sat inside when it's dark outside mulling things over means more moaning and sniping.
Compared to a lot of sites/social media outlets I think it's not too bad here 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Well heres one thread to show what this forum can help to achieve;
http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic121367.html
I think on the whole the sniping is down to the usual suspects and the rest of us just ignore it.
Unless its baiting DG of course All things shipping, storage, transport. UK and worldwide.

Indeed, it's important not to extrapolate from the few threads where a minority are winding each other up to be applicable to the forum as a whole. The overwhelming majority of threads aren't like that. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

I've always been a big fan of Forums and have even done my fair share of developing some of the features available on many forum platforms when I have some time on my hands.
As such I've probably been an active member of over 100 forums in the past 10 years, many of which I still grace with my presence when I can.
There are very few forums, however, that are as civilised and helpful as this one.
I've seen things changing hands for no charge, items being taken across counties, countries and even continents to get them to other members without thought of personal inconvenience and so much help dished out it's hard to quantify.
But most of all people, on the whole, treat each other with respect and are at least willing to listen to the opinion of others before damning them unconditionally.
I think it's a testament to this that we see people who don't drive a Disco 3 on here on a daily basis. Because when a forum that's so focused on one thing finds itself welcoming those outside of that common ground then the only thing that can be attracting them has to be the people?

I agree with you Acarab, but I still can't stop chuckling about your 'tiles' story
Which I guess kind of contradicts the ethos..........

Members who are trouble makers, over the years, come & go but usually the forum is an excellent place to spend time. I wouldn't have purchased a Discovery had it not been for this forum.

I think its great we have so many smart people on the forum like myself, we can give so much, there is a wealth of experience on here and even the daft people are now getting up to speed, gaining experience and now even helping others
The forum is big enough for everyone, so you can find your corner and leave others to theirs, there does seem to be a bit of skirmishing going on with early morning or late night attacks, but they are soon seen off and sent scurrying back to their gang
I think Martin and the moderators do a great job, its not easy controlling a forum and keeping it as friendly and nice as this one there are times when the odd few get out of hand but they are quickly put in their place by the mod team which is a good thing, especially when its someone else in the this time
HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL and may the January Sales soon be with us Lord Discotres of Glencoe

I guess when a Forum is as successful and has as many members as this one does, there are bound to be a few people who don't fit the friendly norm - my faith is restored. 2013 D4 HSE Luxe in Indus Silver
