Rear diff blew up! options? FWD only? nonlocking 2 w/locking

So my read diff went out. Was at a stop light went to accelerate and bang it went. I managed to limp it home and I'm going to crack it open in the morning. Only trouble is I'm home visitng the folks for the holiday and have to drive 700 miles come sunday.

Is driving on the front diff only an option? Can I just yank the rear drive shaft and call it a day until I can source another?

I did manage to find a locking diff about 20mins away but I have the non locking diff. its only $400 Can I use it for the time being?

Guess it wouldn't be impossible, seen it done on a Shogun. So long as you do something with the driveshaft so it seals the oil in?

Probably far more hassle than its worth though

Very good chance of that bodsy looking at his location, in the UK could be a whole different ball game
