RoofTent / LR Roof Bars ??

Has anyone attached their roof tent to the LR Aero Roof bars.

does it secure properly given they are curved ? Duncan

how did you attach it - ive got a Howling moon - but no attachment kit - just the aluminium rails that fit to the underneath of the tent base Duncan

Dunc,

Mine has 4 bolts for each rail that are captive ish in the rail that go either side of the roof bar and bolt through a bit of flat plate underneath the bar, if you know what I mean.

Never had a problem, always been very secure, could do with a bit of rubber on the flat plate though.

Mine is not a HM but I guess that the bottom rail's would be similar.

Duncan,

I made up 8 T shaped bolts with flat plates that had nuts welded on them.

Bolts dropped down either side of the bars picking up on the plates

ive got the bolts and steel plate etc in the garage

im just a bit unsure whether the tent will clamp down properly on the roof bars that are curved across the roof but also the bars are curved rather than flat front to back Confused

also, I want to be able to slide the tent up and down the roof rack rails - will need to test that when fitted. Duncan

Why would you want to slide it up and down the rails?

I think you would need 4 very able bodied people and a small platform either side to do that as the roof bars are not easy to move even when not loaded.

Dunc, I had the same thoughts, with my recently bought roof tent & how to attach it. Was gonna go down the LR bars route. Then went to LNB tow bars at Filton., ended up buying some flat Thule bars (who apparently make the LR ones), which work a treat.. 👍
