Does this mean I have locking diff? |
|
I bought my 2005 LR3 used, and wasn't sure if I had a locking diff.
The window sticker from the car says:
"2-Speed electronic gearbox with variable locking center differential"
If I do, how does it lock? Automatically when in low gear or special programs?
I appreciate the help,

The LR3 has two separate diffs... all LR3s have the Center Diff. The optional differential is the Rear Diff.
As far as locking, the computers on board decide when to lock them automatically. If you have the sat nav option, enter the 4x4 Information mode and select one of the off-road Terrain Response programs, say Sand. On the sat nav screen, you will now see 2 "Padlock" icons over the drivetrain. They should look unlocked and be green.
When the computers detect that you need some extra umph, the diffs will lock, and the icons will show locked and be red. Depending on the terrain, this may be very quick. Once it is determined you no longer need them locked, the computers will unlock them.
Note than even if you don't have a rear diff, the screen will show an icon for it and pretend to control it.
As far as I know, they will never lock if you are in the "General On-Road" program. 2005 LR3 HSE - ARB Bumper, Warn XD9000, Custom Rock Sliders and Skid Plates, BBS Faultmate MSV-2 Extreme, Kenwood TMD-700, etc, etc,
