I paid someone today and it cost me nothing because I used my bank account rather than CC. But no idea if the other party paid anything...Mark.

Not formalised, no.
Many people who are trusted will still ask for this, based upon reputation etc. Not many people will publicly say anything, but it will happen and I'll still be asking for payment that way or increasing the price to compensate for the thieving PayPal charges where that's not possible.
Maybe I'll be hung for it...... Bodsys Brake Bible
Rules state that you can't put paypal gift in the post, not that you can't use paypal gift.
The gift option removes fees for both parties but means that paypal would not step in to settle a disagreement between parties BUT
Paypal's latest T&C's as discussed elsewhere now state
“… PayPal reserves the right not to effect a payment made by you until it receives cleared funds (this also means, without limitation, that PayPal is not obliged to settle a refund transaction before having received funding for the original transaction).â€
So in reality, they won't even if you use the fee options, can't really see a benefit to paypal, Bank transfer anyone ?Altox GSM FBH controller thread

might take you up on that
I think you have to view the intention as to help ensure site users are protected as much as possible ...doesn't happen often for sure but not everyone has behaved well in the past and we've ended up having to participate in the resolution more than we should 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

A members reputation on here is enough evidence of whether you can trust them to sell you goods or services by paypal gift or bank transfer and expect to get them, I'll be working on that principle.
I still know of members sending goods out before payment is made, sadly however of late I'm also aware that this has been abused Altox GSM FBH controller thread

I think you know full well what the intention of this is - so I don't see why you are stirring up a problem like this?
I am the one who gets the hassle when a member sends money by PayPal gift and the item doesn't show up. I'm expected to be able to supply contact details and addresses of problematic sellers. These are not recorded as part of site membership and cannot, in any case,
be divulged under Data Protection regulations.
It reflects badly on the site when "so and so on DISCO3" or "people on here" take money and don't deliver.
I know this has also been experienced the other way around with "bad" buyers.
Neither should be happening in my opinion.
This policy is supposed to be helpful and expressing a duty of care for those who wouldn't know why it is wrong to send payments for goods via gift.
Royal Mail say don't send cash through the post because if it goes missing, it's gone. People still ignore it, but that's their risk.
I appreciate that where there is trust, then there is a vastly reduced risk of sending a non recoverable payment.
However, where do I set the line where someone is trusted enough to be supported in asking for gift payments. And how is it policed?
I'm disappointed to receive criticism now of something I've announced before, without any comment about how to resolve it - other than exposing buyers to the risks of PayPal gift with unknown sellers.06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Not fresh criticism, my view was the same when it was discussed previously.
Just think it's a bit harsh to set in stone tbh.Bodsys Brake Bible

Well it wasn't my actions. It was my advert selling an iPad that provoked today's episode. Evidently someone reported it to Martin.
There's a myriad of adverts asking for payment this way, including some by site sponsors and even a mod, so why mine in particular should be reported is open to debate, but I suspect site safety wasnt the persons concern.

So you've had a while to think of a solution then
In all seriousness, BACS/FPS is free to send and receive and I understand you have the assistance of the bank(s) involved should there be an issue.
I can't resolve the fact that you want to force the use of PayPal gift against their T&Cs AND protect buyers from unscrupulous sellers.
Otherwise I would have to ban PayPal gift for some and not others (perhaps with a post count/membership cutoff). But this would be a statement supporting a breach of PayPal T&Cs by the "trusted" sellers. Which I clearly can't do.
I think it's unfair to blame me for pushing prices up; if PayPal withdrew the gift system tomorrow then you'd have to do this anyway. You have only set your prices where they are because you have been using a zero cost payment system for something that you shouldn't!
I understand you want to keep costs down; PayPal gift is not the only way to do this, nor should it be one of the options.06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

By the way, do you think I want to have to do this and have the ensuing row about it?
I'd rather not have an endless list of rules but we live in a world where, as Beanie has said, the tiny few spoil it for all.
You still have to pay to insure your Discos although you have absolutely no intention of crashing it or having it stolen. But it happens to some, so we all pay.
Don't even get started on taxation...06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
