"Get set for Winter" package... |
|
Just been offered this by my Dealer...
" Free Windscreen Shield included as part of our £19.99
Get Set for Winter Package (RRP £34.95).
Book your car in for our ‘Get set for Winter’ package and benefit from a free Windscreen Shield application including your two front door windows and complimentary vehicle wash and vacuum.
What do I get for £19.99?
• A personalised health check of your vehicle
• Complimentary vehicle wash and vacuum
• Complimentary Winter Windscreen Shield application including
your two front door windows
What is a Winter Windscreen Shield?
Winter Windscreen Shield is a revolutionary glass treatment provided by Duxback which was originally developed for aviation and applied to Boeing cockpit glass. This professionally applied treatment greatly improves the visibility when driving in pouring rain, especially at night. Sleet and snow simply beads, sheds and rolls off whilst ice struggles to stick, practically eliminating your arduous morning routine of scraping ice off your windscreen throughout Winter. Ice will struggle to form down to -3 degrees and anything after that will be much easier and quicker to remove.
What do I get as part of the Vehicle Health Check?
Our visual multipoint check and report covers the key safety and legal compliance components on your vehicle. That includes the tyres and pressures, brakes, steering, suspension, lights, exhaust, battery, fluid levels and engine."

As I was in the area,I booked the car in to the Dealers last Thursday.
Took about an hour all-in,and I have to say the Duxback treatment is very very good.....my front side windows are completely clear on the move, even in the very heavy rain and strong winds we had at the weekend....as soon as you start moving the droplets fly off .... even the wipe-off from the windscreen doesn't stick.
Just out of interest,I briefly switched the wipers off at speed, and it was perfectly clear, requiring just an occasional quick flick of the wipers.
Miles better than the self-applied Rain-X I normally use....will be interesting to see how long the Duxback lasts, but initial signs are good.
And as far as finding things "needing" done .....the only things were 95% worn rear pads, and corroded rear discs, which they've recommended I change at the same time.As these are original items, after 38k miles,I though that was pretty good and didn't come as a surprise?
Considering Halfrauds charge £24.95 for the windscreen treatment alone, and £34.95 for screen and front side windows,I thought £20 and a full inspection was very good....well done Lloyds LR in Kelso "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

I got an email as an existing customer of Lloyds.....but I looked up Duxback suppliers, and they list the John Clark Motor Group as a supplier/customer...they own Pentland LR,so might be worth giving them a ring and see if they'll do it for you....just mention a competitor is doing the deal, that usually does the trick "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Slightly off topic but I Just discovered that Gtechniq UK HQ is based in a little village very near where we live and I gave them a call. But it seems you need more than just the Smart Glass G1 treatment at £10.99 a bottle as they recommend using their pre-cleaner and a special bonding agent liquid before applying the G1 to the glass to get it to bond to the glass. She said you start with the windscreen work your way around the whole car, then do the windscreen a second time and there is enough in one bottle to do that. The girl did say that once done it should easily last for 15.000 miles Might call in tomorrow and buy a kit from them and give it a try I'll also ask them if they would consider a D3/4 forum members discount if anyone is interested On a mission to find the perfect Pork Pie. Just Found it (I think)..(Yes I have)

It really does last that much but, as with all decent jobs, prep is the key and I'd certainly say the bonding agent is well worth it.
I got mine at £10.94 for the Smart Glass, residue remove and applicator (which is a pretty good deal from somewhere like DetailedClean.co.uk then the G4 Nano Polish which helps it stick is about another £6.
Well worth it and makes Rain-X look like mud.
I'd be very interested in a group buy if one was available.
Yes it lasts really, really well but I like to apply it Twice a year, once in about December when the car gets a pre-winter clean and then again in Late Spring.
It's an amazing experience driving in rain when you don't even need the wipers on as the water is just running off the screen!
22PLE VX1 is a product of similar qualities, but a bit more pricey, I really can't notice the difference between the 2 and would go back to the G every time.

+1 for G-Tech stuff. We have it on our cars and it really does negate the need for wipers over around 30mph. Not that I'd recommend doing that of course Very very impressive but watch out for the wiper judder and possibly some smearing at first. This can be cured by treating the wiper blades themselves at the same time as the screen apparently.
