And having checked the cable, that looks fine, but the tailgate release still doesn't work!
Is there another possible reason why it's not playing ball?

Tailgate release cable replaced, but the boot will not open now. Actuator is firing, but obviously there is something amiss with the cable release.
Releasing from the dash doesn't work either. Can anyone help please? Right now, we can't open the tailgate and are genuinely stumped.

Relatively common for the actuator to lose its umph and become weak.
Can you open the tailgate by manually pulling the cable? Mods:
Front Fogs + Halos
FBH Remote Control
The 1st Ever RRS Modded Grill
Garmin Nuvi + D4 Surround + Reversing Camera.
D4 Steering Wheel.
Rear Boot Spoiler.
Twin Brake Lights.
Wing Mirror Indicator Repeaters.

We've just replaced the upper tailgate handle assembly and the lower tailgate cable assembly.
The boot release won't work, so I'm guessing that the only way to have a look is to climb in through the back seats and remove the trim? Is there anything else which can cause this problem?
Thought we had covered everything!

After a long shift that has just made my day   D4 Front upgrade/cut back wings n things 'taking a long time but getting there'.
D4 rear upgrade - Narpys helped with that bit
Flack for problem solving and D4 Bluetooth Install/ D4 Heated Steering wheel with Flappy paddles n BBS enabling kit
Disco Mikeys work - Serviced, EGR blanking and 4x4 software upgrade, 3 flash indicators.
