How to mount roof tent to roof rails?

Hi there, just sat planning all my camping adventures for next year & started thinking about the roof tent.

Currently I mount it to the disco on top of my standard roof bars however it time consuming attacheing & seems a little high off the car.

I was wondering if any one knows of a way to mount a tent on the roof rails without the bars?

Here is a picture of how it is mounted currently:

Here is a pic of what I'm thinking of:

My Tent is bolted to the top of my sankey trailer, so I don't see why you couldn't use a similar bracket shown in your second picture and bolt this directly to the RT - measurements would be vital as it would need to look right as well as being able to go on and off quickly, perhaps put the brackets in the rails, place tent on roof and mark out on the underneath of the tent where the brackets need to attach.

Glad to here someone else thinks it is possible. spent ages trawling through the internet looking at pictures of roof tents trying to see how they are mounted and every single one is either roof bars or roof rack.

Was looking at the ends of the rails and you can remove the cap to allow something to slide straight in from the rear. So a rail attached to the bottom of the the tent that slieds in could be an option.

Anyone know of anything already done like this that i can buy off the shelf instead of manufacturing in my garage? Sad

Uncle ray makes some antenna brackets that slide into the roof rails .. Iv used some modified ones to put some roof bars on , so I'm sure something could be done .

You could leave them attached to the roof tent and drop the whole thing in place .. Then slide it back and lock it in place

I've had a look at using some brackets made up from scraps and then attached using either Uncle Ray's modified mounts as Wiggs says, or the fixing kit from a prospeed roof rack (Which is available separately for about £60) both do the same Job.

There's also some sets you can get on eBay with M8 Bolts and fixing plates which some have said will fit in the rails, but I can't find the thread that points to those at the mo, if anyone else can recall it? It was in the past couple of weeks certainly.
