Place to camp with the car in the UK?

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to find a few places in the UK where it's possible to just turn up, park and camp next to your car - preferably with campfires allowed.

My best friend who I've known since school is moving away to the other side of the world early next year and a few of us are trying to arrange a huge road trip round the UK to visit old friends and have one last adventure before he sods off.

We did a similar thing in Europe a few years ago, where such things are far more possible, and although these days we much rather prefer nice hotels it's just a hark back to our Early Twenties when doing crazy things was the norm.

Are there any places with nice natural scenery you can just park up and have a fire then sleep in the back of the car or under a tarp in the UK?
