Random locking/unlocking

Hi guys.

So, I'm parked up at my girlfriends house chilling in the car with it in park, but no handbrake on just idling in the drive. Next minute the actuators can be heard clicking as if to unlock and lock, close,y followed by hazard lights and a "park brake fault" message.

Then driving home, the lock actuators are again heard clicking and the indicator was disabled for a bit then came back.

What causes this? I've just replaced the battery too.

Thanks, Ben.

I read a post on here the other day where the guys doors unlocked, suspension lowered and the hazards started flashing... think that turned out to be the switch

Had similar happen when locked though. Alarm went on door locks opened and closed. Turned out to be the ignition switch, probably not turning things off completely?

Not sure if it will help in your situation?

Any fault codes?

You have a CANBUS problem. Probably a damaged wire - check the wiring at the left side rear wheel arch connectors, the wiring loom that runs under the windscreen and check for water ingress at the TCM. Faulty EPB module can cause it too.

You have to isolate each module in turn to identify where the fault is occurring, but this can only be done when the fault is present which makes the process a bit of a pain.

Cheers Robbie. Almost sounds like a case of leave it till it gets worse? I'll keep all your ideas in mind though.

Ben.

It's worth checking the wiring in the places highlighted.

Definitely gonna try and get a brake switch tomorrow. Drive home and the hazards are going, then wouldn't start with park brake fault continuing on the dash. Even though park brake was working for. What I could hear.

And all I wanted was a reliable capable vehicle. Sigh.

Ben.

Brake switch arcing does not trigger the hazards. As I said, you have* a CANBUS problem.

Problem solved guys!

Turns out in the process of installing my two way in the car and having the dash apart, the leftmost connector on the climate control panel mustn't have been seating right. Unplug and plug back in, alls working now!

Ben.
