Front lower wishbone replacement, and a piece of string.
Just replaced my front lwr wishbones as per the excellent instructions by KAV1187 in the WIKI.
All went extremely well, the only tough bit was getting the lower ball joint off, but a bit of heat and a big ammer did the trick. I had no problems removing the other bolts, must be the climate here, not much corrosion.
I wasn't going to do this job until next week, but the parts arrived so bl**dy quick from Advanced Factors .......Thank You ....... it had to be done.
Tracking:
I set the tracking up afterwards using the "string and 2 axel stands" method, basically you take a long piece of string tied to an axel stand in front of one headlight, and wrap it around the back of the car all the way to the other axel stand in front of the other headlight. line all this up just touching the tyres at mid level and take your measurements from that.
Last time I set the tracking like this, I took it to the garage afterwards to be checked and it was spot on, so it does seem to work. I will take it again to be checked, but I know it won't be far out, some garages here in France often make it worse. So it is a good method if you feel there is something wrong, and you want to have a quick "no cost" look at your tracking.
So thanks again to the excellent info here, it fixed my suspension knock, next job the suspension compressor.

Wheelarch Measurement
Well done Roastbeef and to the guys who posted the How To's etc makes life much easier!
However, I've just wrestled my NSF lower wishbone off ( only the rear bolt needed the grinder ), and I'm in the process of re-assembling and I'm wondering exactly which part of the arch the 466mm measurement should be made? Top centre of outer arch plastic moulding or top centre of inner arch liner. I can't see anything more specific when searching and wondered if anyone could confirm. Any help would be good as it's dark, p155ing down and I really need to get out from under the disco and in for a heat!

Cheers Robbie
I did see that diagram and then thought too much about it! I thought there would have been a better datum point than a point on a cosmetic plastic trim but I guess this is not NASA! Anyway, I reckon I owe you a beer or three for your fast response!
Once more into the rain!
Cheers, Jason

i like you'r idea of setting the tracking with the string idea but the rear track of the disco is 7.5mm wider than the front ,doesn't sound much but it's enough to scrub tyres and make the handling not great
