Replacing Front Diff Oil Seals: Some Questions
Noticed my front diff is looking a bit damp lately.
Can't be sure it's the oil seals (most notably NS) but suspect as much. New breather cap fitted a few years ago now but have not checked breather pipe is still attached to diff.
How easy is it to fit new oil seals to my front diff? Is this a DIY job? Can it be done with the diff in situ with the car on axle stands or does the diff have to be removed from the car? Are there any special tools required to do this job, please? Should I inspect the state of the diff oil before going to the trouble of replacing the oil seals?
Any advice gratefully received with regards correctly diagnosing and repairing. I could do without having to buy a new front diff as well as a new EAS compressor this week.
Thanks,

If you mean the seals that are around the half shafts, then yes DIY job with the diff in the car - just have to pull the half shafts out - which does mean removing the brake disks and hub etc.
Make sure you have something large enough to evenly push the seal back in - large flat faced socket for example.Mark.

The driveshaft seals are easy to fit and there's no need to remove the diff, I haven't had to fit a pinion seal but it doesn't look that difficult. If possible I would use original LR seals as they have a plastic collar that helps to locate the seal squarely during installation.GAP IID Pro Multi Vehicle Defender L316 2007-2015 - Discovery 3 - Discovery 4 - Discovery Sport L550 - Freelander 2 - Range Rover Evoque L538 - Range Rover L322 - Range Rover L405 - Range Rover Sport L320 - Range Rover Sport L494 Electrical Fault Diagnostics

Thanks guys.
Have you seen a more detailed How To on the site or is really as simple as remove road wheels, discs, hubs, drive shafts. Fit new seals and put everything back together again?
Any specialist tools required? Have seen circlip pliers mentioned elsewhere.
Thanks,

I never remove the caliper carrier, brake disk or hub to get the half shaft out of front hub. I only take off the brake caliper to get the slack that's needed to get shaft out of hub after loosening the front knuckle off the upper arm.
