How many is too many

Still in the market for my first D3 and I've located a few nearby:

£10,000 for a 2005 HSE with 115,000 miles, documented service history including the big one along with a host of other work including suspension, bushes, brakes, discs, compressor etc all adding up to about £2,500 but, it's had four owners.

The other, an S 2005 (54) manual with 102,000, two owners and part service history. The only extras appear to be leather and side steps for £8,000

and finally another S 2005 (55) Auto with 76,000 miles, two owners, not many toys but from a dealer (indy Land Rover) I have bought from before who appears to have a good reputation, but, its up for £12,000

Any thoughts, comments to chuck into the melting pot greatly appreciated (especially the mrs who I know I'm driving daft at the moment.

Mhhhh, I guess everybody has a different approach towards buying cars. So please do not kill me for my view Twisted Evil

I'd go with the HSE if it is in good overall shape. If major work was done just recently you have a slightly better chance that nothing major will happen any time soon. If you can not repair the D3 it may end up costing you a lot more than anticipated. And for sure thing will come up.

From my experience it does not matter how many previous owner a 2005 MY car had, you can have a single owner who did not look after it or you may have multiple owners and all of them took care of it.

Take the car of your choice to a knowledgeable person and you are given another view.

Good luck

the HSE of that year will have a lot of extras you don't get on HSEs after 2007 and lesser models, and the big stuff seems to have been done already

I agree, that is the one I would inspect first; although the 05 HSE's did take a small dip in spec before the heady days of 06.

Not that I would miss the trauma of the rear aircon!

But they also miss out on Bluetooth, cubby fridge and (mostly) adaptive Xenons...

But the lack of rear AC more than makes up for that Laughing

Thanks folks for the replies up to now... when I re read my post it was obvious which one to go for. Problem is I can't get to test drive it for for a couple of days so I'm in for an agonising wait.

Hmmm gives. Me a good indication of what my hse might be worth. I'd scope out the hse first as well. That is still not that many owners for a car that is nearly 10 years old. You might find one of them was the garage when it was new as well.
