Low Ratio/Foot off Accelarator - Vehicle lunges

When accelerator is applied the vehicle drives fine, but as soon as I take my feet off all pedals (for example whilst driving down steep hill) the vehicle lunges as if the brake is being applied then released. It's an auto box incidently! No I'm not using HDC and a friend of mines D3 doesn't do the same.
Almost seems like the engine is starved of fuel and then suddenly gets some! Any ideas?

No, that should not happen. I take it you are not touching the clutch and do not have HDC engaged?

Oh dear, my apologise, you are so right. It still should not surge as much as described. But the auto's are not quite as sensitive as the manual can be.

Errr beg to differ, the engine braking on an auto, in low box, especially 1st gear lo box, is significant.

If you are in first gear low box and using a lot of revs, when you take your foot off you will eat steering wheel unless you are ready for it.

Try using a higher gear.

Tried the auto today and it did not have as much braking power on the engine as the manual, but it did surge in low ratio reverse. However the HDC came in at 45mph when I was playing, interesting.

I understood the question was that it was erratic?
