As per the title really. I'm looking at getting a D3. I would prefer an SE or above spec. I'm keeping my options open with regards to engine type. If I go down the V8 route, it will be fitted with LPG.
So which is your preferred engine and why.
Thanks

V8. No delay at junctions, quiet and smooth as silk(except when you drive hard then the V8 sounds are there). I am getting 31mpg equivalent out of my V8 over the last 6000 miles (don't use the dash it lies, only actual tank measurements work for mpg). I am not a conservative driver limping around trying to eke my mpg up, I just drive.
No turbo issues, No trimming belts, Oil pump problems high pressure pumps.
Lower initial purchase price means a quality LPG install is affordable overall.
Oh and you won't have a spare wheel for anyone to nick

I spoke to the garage selling the LPG V8 in question. He tells me that the MIL is on when running on LPG. I guess this is a mixture problem.
Also I've been reading about some valve seat recession problems affecting the Jag 4.4 V8. How true this is, I don't know.

Hi Nodge,
My V8 (on petrol, not lpg) just went over 200,000 kms and no engine problems.

Eventually you may get some valve problems though the JLR engine does not suffer as much as some. To redo the valves is 500 and this will be a one time job unless you plan on keeping it a very long time and going to the moon and back. That 500 is easily covered in savings elsewhere.
You won't regret it anymore than buying a diesel they will both have costs along the way so go ahead and get some enjoyment out of it.
I've had lpg for over 25 years and have never regretted it from volvo's to range rovers and discoveries. My volvo from new lpg'd it and did 297000 miles with no valve problem and not much less miles in my range rover.

What would be the cost to change over a 110 V8 to LPG?

Thanks for the info. I drive a V6 Freelander at the moment, this is what the D3 will replace. I can do the spanner work so it's parts and machining only for costs. I have read about valve lubricant for LPG systems, this might be an answer.
From an enjoyment point of view, the V8 is the way to go.

I have a V8 which has now done 170,000 km it's been LPG'd for about 40,000. Over here diesel is around $1.50 per litre, I pay 73 cents for LPG. I also have a valve saver system fitted. Not sure if it will make any difference but they fitted it when I had the conversion done.
I love it at traffic lights when the diesel Toyotas see it's a Land Rover and decide to beat me away from the lights. I just let them get about 10 yards ahead and then I floor it then they see the little badge on the back. I shouldn't do it I know but somethings just have to be done
