Hi Guys new to the forum so no doubt positing this in the wrong place (be kind) and have trawled through many of the related topics first nut to no avail.
Here goes, My Disco 3 2008 GS manual (which I love) recently started with a small whine noise over 30mph, has got worse and now sounds metalic and rising in pitch with acceleration. The noise continues with the clutch depressed. not worse in corners, or when performing gentle ss in the road so I doubt its a wheel baring.
My garage did an gearbox oil change and reckons there was hardly any oil in it. so have I shot the gearbox? if so how much (he said bracing him self, sitting down and pouring a large drink)
I have had the car from new its now done 135k and has been a star as car a van, mini bus, and on 2 separate occasion life saving ambulance. hope you can help me. (desperate sigh)

Manual gearbox is not a fill and spill, filler plug is not the level plug. Cant remember how much oil it takes but it caught me out first time as I purchased the oil needed and put it all in and it did not reach the plug then had to drain it all out and start again. Think it takes 1.6 litres. Check propshaft bearing.
