2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Manual Barolo BlackDiscovery 3
In the market

Good afternoon all, I'm currently looking at a D3. I was recently medically discharged from the armed forces so thought i would treat myself with my payout on plus i need a descent off roader / cruiser with my new job and having 2 crazy springer spaniels.

I do have a few questions.. Im after buying a manual with around 80k on the clocks i would ideally like an SE with the leather but might look into cloth due to the price differences iv seen. Iv got £14k but the ones iv been looking at are all coming in at around £10-13k is that about right?? I will also maintain it myself apart form the larger things like a clutch change is this possible to do? i am handy with a spanner Laughing

With me looking at getting an older D3 05-07 ill take it the Warranty direct cover is whats best to buy from what iv read on here so far.

What do i need to be looking out for? FSH, Cambelt changes, clutch changed??

Dose anyone have a buyers guide??

Thanks for any help Very Happy

Dani

Cue the beer bellied grumpy bolding middle aged lazy stick (auto) lovers Rolling with laughter

There's normally one or two D3's in the for sale section, buying off here would be a good start Thumbs Up

Although you'll find it a bit harder to come by a manual D3 with all the toys but they are out there Wink

As above good ones come up on here.
Buy a well looked after one has they are expensive when they go wrong
Things to look out for are
Oil pump casing changed if 2006 - 2009
Suspension bushes go after a while along with wheel bearings
Alternators go
Rear brake pipes rust.
Other people may come along with other things to look out for

Other than that a very good car, especially in auto.

2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Manual Zermatt SilverDiscovery 3

I plan on selling mine end sept ish - march 06 (about a week before it changed to more expensive tax), manual, around 80k miles, silver, black leather, SE with loads of HSE extras - heated seats front and rear, electric memory seats, iPod aux input, arm rests, cubby fridge, 4x4 sat nav, upgraded cup holders, MOT clean from July 23, remainder of LR warranty until mid jan that you can renew or switch to other provider with no exclusion wait time, owned for 3 years, bought from another forum member and always run with a warranty so a stack of dealer history, full service history - some LR, some TFC/flack and some indie, privacy glass, HK sound system. Averages 32 as a run around, more on long run. Extras available as first refusal to buyer then opened to forum will be detachable tow bar, roof rails, hatchbag boot liner and half height dog grill. Not sure on numbers yet but will be around 12k I should think. Based near Bristol. AT2's on in last 6 months, alternator, battery, compressor, both EGRs replaced rather than blanked as covered under warranty, no expense spared when looking after her.

I copied this from a previous post from Deanicus but he's bought something now so don't feel bad about offering it around.

It's having a Pilkington screen fitted in the next week by autoglass, off to indie to sort out a dodgy parking sensor a week tomorrow then valeted and on the market come mid sept.

I'll be posting it up on the forum first then autotrader, happy for forum members to have first refusal Thumbs Up

I've always had manuals and just got a D3 auto and I'm still trying to get used to the disconnected feeling that it brings. Yes, it is nice to drive, smooth and great on a run and reasonably rapid but a manual will kick it's Censored avery day. Don't get me wrong, I love my D3 but the feeling of being driven rather than driving the car is taking a little time to get used to.

My reason behind a manual is I don't won't to get lazy having an auto not to say they make everyone lazy but they are just not my cup of tea

Hi, my ten-penneth worth would be to look for the car / spec / condition and don't get hung up whether it is a manual or automatic if it is a manual you're after.

I could witter on about how much better an auto is off road and how poor the clutch in the manual is in terms of longevity if heavy towing etc but....... one thought for you - what can you do in a manual that you can't in an auto? Answer - use the clutch!!!!!

Anyway, good luck with finding that perfect D3 - they are truly great cars and if the bank account emptying option hasn't been activated you'll love every minute (especially if it's an auto - Sorry, couldn't resist!).
