| preventive Fix for tailgate issues? |

This might be the stupid question of the day:
Seeing my front door locks fail I wonder when the rear tailgate lock will start acting up as well. Is there any preventive fix or maintenance that I can do to prevent getting caught out with tailgate issues? Searching the forum I have found a lot of repair info but perhaps I could try to be smarter and attach the lock cable in a way it does not disconnect one day by itself?
Any help welcome

I took mine apart the other day and added an "emergency release" in the form of some strimmer wire attached with cable ties. It exits on the RHS of the lower tailgate inside the boot. Pull it and it pulls the actuator in the right direction to release. These links should help:

Sorted mine out over the weekend, replaced the (cracked) end on the actuator cable with a cut down allen key as per information on here.
It is easy to strip the trims off when the top tailgate latch still works  06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
