Bio diesel in a TDV6???

Hello,
was having a chat with a retired mechanic down the road from us, he runs in his 08 audi estate on a 50/50 mix on bio that he has made himself (this is the proper stuff not just straight veg oil) and he claims as long as its made well, it will run perfect in any car and that there is a lot of rubbish spread about it.

So the question is does anyone have any experience in using bio in the disco 3 tdv6?
I see the Landrover book says not to, however most manufacturers say this and many cars run fine on it.

Do i pluck up the courage to try it? would help save hugely on fuel costs

thanks

If you have any sort of warranty you probably need to stick to LR's dmaximum 5% biodiesel:-

Personally I try to get fuel which is <7%

by Law, Diesel from the pump could have a maximum on 7% bio.

seek for EN590. maximum 7% FAME ( AKA biodiesel)+ FAME is cheaper....joint yourself....

so....all of us are by law against LR recomendations getting diesel to our cars...

last mod is EN590:2014

The simple explanation is that the cylinders will run fine on even 100% vegetable oil - see history lesson on Rudolf Diesel's compression ignition engine for more detail. However, seals and filters in many current engines can only cope with mineral oil without deterioration. So everyone is "right".

I assume then the petrol companies wanted to use more as it's cheaper to process (better profit margins) and car manufacturers doesn't want a string of cars with failed engines from what ever possible could happen with a mix and hassled a limit under government legislation

Cuco. reading through the lines then, that is Maximum so in theory it could actually be lower Confused
