Buying 180k miler
Hi folks,
Looking for opinion or rather reassurance
In the market for a disco be it a 2 or 3. I have found a 180,000 mile disco 3. It has a little more mileage that I wanted to start off with but is at a price I couldn't pass. It has a load of the disco issue sorted and belts etc done. Would the high mileage but you off, would I be better possible going to a disco 2 with lower mileage.

If looked after milage should not be an issue for what I have found, I started a thread asking about milage, just do a search and you will find it.Dale

D3 is sooooooooo much better than the D2, worth the hassle. Don't assume coz things have been done on the D3 then that's it sorted, it doesn't work like that. They are the best cars in the world, and can be the worst. Hope for the best but plan for a bit of a money pit then you won't go wrong.

It's was a 2005 and asking price was €7,000 euro. Unfortunately I rang about it today and it is sold

We have just brought a 140k 2008 it fantastic miles does not kill cars age does a motor trader told me happy hunting.

Likewise, bought a 2005 recently with 145K....no problems as yet, and drives mint.

Mine is an 05 with 160k on it. Most reliable car I've ever had. I've owned it since new and its never missed a beat. As long as its been well loved I wouldn't worry about high mileage. Low mileage means short stop start journeys, cold engines or periods of non use.
These cars are better used.

I'm thinking of a D4 - a 2012 XS with 36,000 miles. Obviously tiny, tiny mileage in comparison, but I do about 30,000 miles a year in my current (and previous) FL2 and I'd want to run it for years and years to come. The fact that people would ever consider a 180,000 miler is very encouraging
Am I mad, thinking of chopping a nice 29,000 mile FL2 for a D4? I managed a weekend test drive of a 2011 D4 GS back in 2012 and absolutely loved it, but couldn't have one at the time, so it was back to the FL2. Now that I can just about afford the change and I was well and truly led astray by all of the D3/4 drivers at Beaulieu a few weeks ago, would I be mad to consider this change with the miles that I do?
Any help much appreciated and sorry for being a newbie high jacking a thread though I think that the original question's probably been answered and it the thread seems to have attracted all the high mileage drivers

My 06 MY D3 at 147,000 miles is the best car I've owned. I've added 20,000 since I bought it at 6 yrs old from a forum member and I think it is better suited to long journeys and high mileage use than short trips esp from an mpg pov and general wear and tear. We regularly cover 400 miles in a single drive and get out feeling like we just got in. My family and other passengers love it. My colleagues commented on how pleasant and short a 2 hr journey felt. The main justification I make for mine was that even though we only cover 9-10,000 miles a year as much as a third of that is long distance high speed motorway driving mostly in winter and my family's safety is paramount. That and the lack of need for 2 cars justifies the other 6-7000 miles it covers locally at higher mpg. I don't want to drive the length of the UK and back several times a year in an Eco-box. A D4 like you're considering will have just the sort of history and provenance I'll be looking for when I change my D3. That's by no means certain though judging from the number of members who persist with their ageing D3s.VR6 > 330D Touring > D3 HSE > !?XC90?!

The car I've found is a 12 plate, 36,000 mile, 1 owner local car. Apparently, the owner comes back and buys a new Disco every two years. Not seen it in the metal yet though....
